Yes it has happened. Today on a bike ride I spotted it from the shoreline trail, the Chevron station on Foothill Blvd had the ominous sign 4.02 for unleaded regular.
There are stations with lower prices I know, but the national average as of today is 3.99 a gallon, so I figure it is just a matter of time before they are all above 4 bucks for a gallon. I may have to dust off Kunstlers, "The Long Emergency" and see what other predictions have already come true this year.
In case you are still wondering why that gallon of gas costs more every week.
Why oil costs over $130 per barrel: the decline of North Sea Oil
Last week we installed 8 new solar panels on the south side of my workshop. Along with the 4 that were already there from last year we now have a 1.5kwh system. It was fun to watch the watt meter spin up as I plugged in the electric motorcycle to the system. The bike was drawing about 950 watts and the panels were putting out 1100 to 1200 under load, so the excess was going into the battery bank for later use. It will give me great pleasure to cruise quietly past all those gas stations without stopping next week. The electric Ninja does not need any gasoline to keep it running.
There were a couple of good articles on alternative energy this week.
World's biggest solar farm at centre of Portugal's ambitious energy plan
From the article listed above.
"Energy and environment are the biggest challenge of our generation. We need to develop a low-carbon model for the world economy. The present situation is dangerous."
There was also this about wind power.
It looks like Portugal will be a leader on Solar and Wind Power in the near future.
Great Article by Jerome a Paris posted on the oil drum this week. He talks about reliability of wind in the article. Did you know that Denmark has days when it produces more than 100% of its electricity from wind? News to me.
Cheers,
Kyle
