StereoTools is a complete stereo imaging, metering and manipulation tool, providing detailed visual feedback of frequency, phase and positioning information. The plug-in has numerous display options which enable precision image monitoring and processing during the mastering stage.
One of the most neglected areas of stereo mastering, in terms of available products, is professional grade stereo imaging tools. StereoTools is a highly effective tool that encapsulates the complete range of standard stereo manipulation functions, including phase reversing, channel flipping, M/S decoding, balance, pan and width filtering.
The exhaustive set of features together with precise visual feedback ensure that every detail of the stereo field can be minutely analysed and if necessary, processed. StereoTools is the first choice for industry professionals and demanding users looking for total control of their stereo image.
StereoTools is indispensable as an analytical tool on the master buss of any mix. No matter what your project, if it is being mixed to stereo, you need precise, simple to read stereo metering and image monitoring.
StereoTools also has the unique ability to tighten up the stereo image with a 'zero width below' parameter which narrows low frequency stereo content below a definable bandwidth.
I'm looking for a VST plugin stereo widener that I can use in the master chain. Something that can only be applied above a certain cutoff frequency (lik a "zero width below") and that I can automatically employ only into the side-signal of M/S.
One way to increase the width of a stereo signal is to use a widener processor. There are multiple tools for this task; Waves Audio Center, Brainworx Control v2 and Sonalksis Stereo Tools to name a few. Always be cautious when using stereo wideners as too much processing can introduce phase problems.
Not really - it is more than common to use two compressors in series, some kind of stereo image widener
, possibly enchanger, dithering plugin and some kind of spectrum analyser in inserts in addition to eq and limiter.
Mid Side options basically allows us to divide our signal down into 3 parts, the middle and the sides (well L& R). Now this can be incredibly powerful as it allows us to push things around within the stereo field without losing central power, a strong phase relationship in our mono bass or focus within our mix.
I am using Protools LE 8 M-box 2 Pro and I want to do some mixing but I see there is no Level meter that is included in the package. And I don't have enough moolas to buy the DV TOOLKIT 2. Does anyone know where I can Download a level meter for Protools le 8 for free it need not even be fancy?
Next comes StereoTools, which offers buttons for phase invert, stereo flip and mid-side input mode, with sliders for balance, panning of both left and right channels, and the all-important stereo width. There's a 'zero width below' slider too, which sets the frequency (from 1Hz to 10kHz) below which audio will be converted to mono.
Finally, there's an analyser section that can depict the stereo image in either a polar or Lissajous (goniometer) format. You can also activate a spectral analyser, for keeping an eye on the frequency distribution.
So, should you buy into Sonalksis' mastering tools? We'd suggest trying them before you do. We're not fully convinced by the limiting algorithms, so while MultiLimit is clearly the big gun of the set, it doesn't sell the package alone.
There are additional groove tools bundled in that can take some of the guesswork out of dialing things in. It can be tempo locked to your DAW or controlled manually, and you can even create your own patterns via the Rhythm Editor. Envelope and ADSR modes can be triggered via source signal.
This plug-in has six flavors of wah going all the way to synth-like filtering. These include sounds from the Dunlop Crybaby, Vox and Vertex wahs, as well as three styles of Mu-Tron (low, high, and band-pass) envelope filtering. All settings share global controls over bandwidth, range, and level as well as attack and release. The pedal position knob simulates the treadle location on an actual wah pedal, and there is stereo linking and MIDI expression pedal functionality.
Another take on a dual filter design made famous by the Sherman Filterbank, it can run in parallel, stereo, or stereo operating modes. It is the second generation of the plug-in that features a re-imagined DSP section and UI. The redesigned interface is much more intuitive and easier to navigate than the previous iteration. The plug-in runs on 12 filter algorithms and an envelope follower, and is capable of much more than filtering. The envelope follower allows for dynamic control of filter frequency with a stereo side-chain so that external signals can trigger it. It offers internal and tempo sync modes, and a VCA mode that allows for gate and tremolo effects. Uniquely, it runs on Windows, Mac, iOS, and Linux systems.
