I know there are few other options like watch it online or using XBMC, but that would be an overhead for my mom. I want something simple for her, like she can change channels thru remote easily (not browse websites for watching her favourite shows). Till now, I have heard about the below options.
I use Yupp TV on my Samsung Smart TV through their app. Video quality is pretty good (similar to other providers I have seen). Have a look at their offerings online and if it suits you then go for it. I got an annual subscription (pretty cost-effective) of their Diamong package very cheap for $100 when they ran a promotion earlier in the year.
PROS:
App for Samsung Smart TV which makes TV channels easy to navigate.
No need of extra device (or set top box). This saves you from the risk of getting your hardware failed after 1 year (like in RealTV).
24x7 Support
Live Channels
Free Hindi Movies Subscription for 1 Year (though I would hardly use that)
People who are looking to purchase a TV soon, I would strongly recommend a Smart TV as to watch Indian channels it does not requires a set top box which is almost of the same cost of difference between a normal TV and a Smart TV.
I have been using real tv for the last 12 months. It was good, but the cost is something I can't justify. Its $380.00 to buy the box which gives you one year subscription only, which I learnt last week when it stopped working. when I purchased it from a store I was told there will be no annual subscription except if I wanted to watch premium channels like star sports, star movies and national geographic channels. Customer service is very bad and also there is no information on their website about the subscription fee. When I rang the customer support (Sydney) number all he said was "go to www.realtvbox.com/recharge" where it says the cost for recharging. I think real tv is a rip off and I am moving back to Yupp tv.
I think they should be having information on their website about the annual subscription and also I am now in the process of making a complaint with the consumer affairs.
from the description if you already have FetchTV which is around $5 pm for account, that's be the slightly cheaper and more use friendly. Add one of two Indian Language Packs available and it'd be $20 pm from memory. And you can timer record those channels so you can watch at later time too. Heck you can even watch those streaming channel on your tablet outside home.
I often watch the Discovery channel on my Nexus 7 from FetchTV box at home while waiting for my kid's morning training at the school. :p
I believe you made the right choice as their service is pretty good. Plus they have Android and iOS apps through which you can watch all the channels on the go.
I wish Yupp TV starts streaming HD versions of the channels too.
I have been using Sasta Tv for the last two years now...No complaints from my end...The great thing is that they cover all of the channels available in our part of the world including sports which is a huge bonus for me...Most of the Indian channels are now streamed in HD so quality is great...It only costs $70 for a years subscription which is a massive plus considering the amount of content you will get apart from the desi channels
The only downside is that the subscription is an add on for XBMC...No stand alone app available as yet for the service...I bought my self an android TV box from eBay and run the subscription through the box...
Hey guys,
It looks like the yupptv is giving only uk channels (colors, sony, Star Plus, Life ok, etc.)
I didnt see atleast those channels which are direct from india.
Correct me if i am wrong. Do the channels have buffering issues?

There is the cheaper alternative of Chromecast that I have been using to basically cast anything from my chrome browser on PC to my TV. Have recently tried an Indian TV package ( ) mainly to watch cricket on star sports HD channels. I had a trial period of 3 days and found most sports channels seem to work without interruption, except star sports HD channels. Have tried it with VPN proxy changed to India and USA, but still no luck. Enjoyed watching most of 1st Aus-NZ ODI from Sky sports 2 of this package, SD quality, data used around 800 MB per hour of streaming. The package costs around $15 per month and seem to have good bunch of channels.
Thanks for the suggestion, I took trial with =sny(myindian.tv), to watch IPL matches. I am really happy with the service and support, SonySix HD, Sony ESPN HD, Sky Sports 2. I bought it for a month only but will be extending it further. They have all good sports and entertainment channels. Highly recommended worth trying a free trial.
Guys Anyone knows how is Cruze TV ?
Also do we know if you get to see new movies on Cruze TV ?? I am after an IPTV that has good quality, not too much delays for programs to come on catch up tv section and shows new bollywood movies .
For certain services like Real TV box, using a smart TV will not help much. Real TV requires a 180 AUD PA subscription and a Real TV hardware device. You cannot use any other device like HTPC/Laptop/Smart TV to use these.
Do not buy RealTV. Its pathetic. I bought just yesterday in Sydney but it does not have any premium channels. All crap channels. I thought i will watch India-South Africa match but was highly disappointed. I do not recommend going for either of one but for real tv i am sharing my own experience.
The problem is you buy one box and there is no support or proper phone number for costumer service. I recon they are all running a shady buisness which I feel is illegal since I don't think they pay for copyrights
I started with Cruze TV and in the beginning it wasn't working well due to lot of buffering but the quality of Channels were still very good.Lack of support and having only one contact person for technical issues ( in Victoria ) makes it bit harder to look for help. The support wasn't very good at the beginning but got better over the time once the guy/technician realised that there is actual a problem with the streaming/box and he offered replacement box free of charge after 6 months of struggle and I have to sent numerous videos and make phone calls to him to prove that there is an issue with Cruze TV.After connecting with the new box it was a smooth sailing until now as I started to see little bit of buffering and issues with 7 days recorded programme which they are aware of and looking to get fixed as I was told.My subscription since has expired. I think Cruze Tv is not around for very Long time like Real TV but they have done well in short period of time establishing themselves in the market and improving on Quality. You can get Cruze TV on Gumtree (including delivery) and Indian Grocery Stores easily around $400-$425 but if can make a few calls you may get it at lower price of around $370-$390 depending who you deal with for 2 years. One year recharge will cost you around $170-$180.
I found the quality of the Channels is better with Cruze TV than Real TV and they do have lot of collection for English Movies and Netflix series which is really good and a bonus as you won't get much English movies collection with Real TV.
Real TV is more known in Australia and most of the dealers sells Real TV than Cruze TV.You can get Real TV for the same price for 2 years ATM (World Cup Special they say not sure how true it is though) between $370-$425 (Hybrid 2) from Gumtree including delivery and most of Indian Stores sells them at around $400-$425.Real TV recharge is also between $170-$180 for 12 months.
The good thing with Real TV is that it has a really good Interface and it is very easy to understand and navigate specially for Parents.Really good quality of 7 days recorded programms and easy to found programmes. There is still a little bit of buffering issue with hybrid boxes and it also depend on your Internet provider.I didn't experience their Support system or contacted them for help so can not advise anything on support at this stage.
YuppTV are always trying to get more money from you by the way of hidden charges. They want huge amounts of money as activation fees to watch the paid packages on multiple TVs or devices plus they have loads of ads. I regret paying for a yearly package this time and now they want $60 for my second TV. I have three TV's at home so not only have I paid $260 for the yearly package, I now have to pay $60 for each of my other devices which will be used sparingly. And every time I replace my TV I need to pay activation fees. It's just one massive money-making scam.
I have had it for a year now. South Indian Channels (Tamil, Telugu & Kannada) have been offline for literally more than half the year. It was offing initially for 2-3 months, then it was streaming for few months, went offline again for 1 month or more and currently it is offline for more than 3 months.
When it when offline within the first 6 weeks, i asked Jadoo TV for refund but they declined stating that they never promised any particular channel and whatever is supplied is upto them. EVEN THOUGH not a single channel was streaming from Tamil / Telugu or Kannada, the response was same.
The reseller who sold the Jadoo box did advice against Jadoo (he sells 3-4 different providers like real TV, world max, jadoo etc) but didnt listen to him thinking he has less margin with Jadoo... And also they offered free 1 year online subscription for Android TV as well.
So apart from Yupp tv are there any other better services that are legal and safe? Real tv is expensive since you have to buy the box then recharge yearly. Jadoo tv is another option but I need to research into that.
Same situation researching on some options. Optus and fetch were so unprofessional, no mention on their websites or emails about the end of the Taj Mahal pack. Only indication was the channel icon changed to say the channel will cease to transmit. I chatted with a rep who recommend Yupp and Eros for movies. At first I thought they had some deal with Yupp as they said those apps will be made available on the fetch box. I realised soon after there was no deal, he was quoting the same price as on their website.
