An anime television series adaptation, produced by Doga Kobo, aired its first 11-episode season from April to June 2023. A second season is set to premiere in 2024. In North America, Sentai Filmworks has licensed the series with an English dub, which premiered on Hidive in May 2023.

Obstetrician-gynecologist Gorou Amamiya is tasked with helping deliver the children of Ai Hoshino, a famous pop idol whom he admires, without the knowledge of the general public. However, the night of Ai's delivery, Gorou is murdered by an obsessive fan of Ai's, and is reincarnated as Aquamarine "Aqua" Hoshino, Ai's son, retaining his memories of his previous life. Unbeknownst to him, Aqua's fraternal twin, Ruby Hoshino, is the reincarnation of Sarina Tendōji, one of Gorou's patients who was a fan of Ai's. Four years later, Ai is murdered by the same fan who had killed Gorou. The fan later commits suicide, but Aqua deduces that the murderer may have had his and Ruby's father as an accomplice and resolves to infiltrate the entertainment industry to find and kill him.

An anime adaptation was announced in June 2022.[40] The anime, later revealed to be a television series, was produced by Doga Kobo and directed by Daisuke Hiramaki, with Chao Nekotomi serving as assistant director, Jin Tanaka writing the scripts, Kanna Hirayama handling the character designs, and Takurō Iga composing the music.[41] It aired from April 12 to June 28, 2023, on Tokyo MX and other networks.[42] The 90-minute first episode also premiered at selected theaters in Japan on March 17 of the same year.[43][44] The opening theme song is "Idol" (アイドル) performed by Yoasobi, while the ending theme song is "Mephisto [ja]" (メフィスト, Mefisuto) performed by Queen Bee.[45][46]

The premiere episode was reported by Hidive as the most successful premiere in the streaming service's history in terms of total viewers, new subscribers, and free trial signups.[80][81] Yoasobi's opening theme song "Idol" reached a total of 100 million worldwide stream and video views on Spotify and YouTube within two weeks after the anime's release.[82] The opening theme also topped the Billboard Global 200 Excl. U.S. charts with 45.7 million streams and 24,000 copies sold outside the U.S. "Idol" has become the first Japanese song and anime song to top the Billboard Global chart as well as taking the first spot on the Apple Music's Top 100: Global chart.[83][84] In 2023, Oshi no Ko won in the anime category while Yoasobi's "Idol" won in the song category of the Yahoo! Japan Search Awards, based on the number of searches for a particular term compared to the year before.[85]

The sixth episode of the anime, which depicts character Akane Kurokawa becoming a target of cyberbullying and subsequently attempting suicide after starring in a controversial episode of a reality television program, was noted by critics for its parallels to the similar real-life case of the suicide of Hana Kimura, a Japanese professional wrestler.[89][90] Neither Akasaka nor the anime's production team commented on the similarity, and some viewers commented that the manga chapters on which the episode was based were planned prior to Kimura's passing.[91] Kimura's mother, professional wrestler Kyoko Kimura, criticized the episode for the similarity, saying that she did not approve of the case "being used like free source material" by the anime writers. Kimura further stated that she felt the topic was portrayed with no consideration for real-life cyberbullying victims.[91][92][93] The series' English licensor, Sentai Filmworks, added an advisory message to the end of the episode providing the phone number to the National Suicide Prevention Hotline on its streaming service, Hidive.[94]

Oshi no Ko is a Japanese anime television series based on the manga series of the same name written by Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari. Produced by Doga Kobo, the series is directed by Daisuke Hiramaki, with character designs by Kanna Hirayama. The music is composed by Takurō Iga.[1] The first season of series consisted of 11 episodes that aired in Japan from 12 April to 28 June 2023.[2] The 90-minute first episode also premiered at selected theatres in Japan on 17 March 2023.[3][4]

So, you guys probably already know all about the hype behind this new anime "Oshi no Ko". Apparently, it has one of the best 1st episodes on anime history, even surpassing FMAB on MAL. I've been intending to watch it for myself. But I haven't been able to find an opportunity to do it yet, because.... life... and college... y'know...

As I scrolled through my general newsfeed, or even literally ANYWHERE on that platform, there were at least 2 dozen random posts and images blabbing on about the key parts of the episode, WITHOUT SO MUCH AS A SPOILER WARNING! LIKE, HAVE THOSE GUYS NEVER HEARD OF THE CONCEPT OF A SPOILER BEFORE?!? I just kept seeing plenty of posts and random comments on this, and at a point, I decided to just leave and block all the pages and groups discussing anime. But at that point, the damage was already done.

With basically the entire 1st episode ruined for me, I decided to check for any spoiler-less info on how good the rest of the show would be. Like, it's only the first episode... So what if it has been spoiled?... I still have the rest of the entire story to look forward to................right?

But then my attempt at self-delusion crashed after I visited the tv tropes page for the anime so as to get a light blurb on the plot, and it stated in its first paragraph that "It is HIGHLY recommended that you at least read/watch the first volume/episode of Oshi no Ko before continuing to read on for the full experience".

Based on the manga of the same name written by Aka Akasaka, known for creating the wildly popular Kaguya-Sama: Love is War, Oshi no Ko's anime adaptation takes a dark look at the Idol industry in Japan, as well as television and film production. It balances its dark themes with a bright and colorful presentation focussed on quirky character designs -- such as the Hoshino Twins' eye stars -- and excessive use of color.

The third episode of Oshi no Ko -- "Manga-Based TV Drama" -- focussed heavily on Aqua rather than Ruby. In this chapter, the male Hoshino twin comes into contact with Kana Arima, the genius child actor he met in the first episode, "Mother and Children." Arima soon revealed that she was working on a TV drama, which she convinced Aqua to join as an actor. He agreed, but only after he learned that a man would be on set who might have a connection to his mother, Ai Hoshino.

The episode concluded with Aqua taking a sample of DNA from his target to continue his attempts to uncover the mysterious figure behind Ai's death. However, the episode delivered one final tease as Aqua returned to filming and claimed he would "go out with a bang" before the credits rolled.

Given that the previous episode of Oshi no Ko aired on April 26, 2023, fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming episode. The next installment is especially significant since it will bring Aqua closer to uncovering the identity of his biological father, who is culpable for the murder of his mother.

The broadcast schedule of Oshi no Ko's episodes follows a weekly Wednesday schedule, and accordingly, the fourth episode is scheduled to air in Japan on April 26, 2023. The airing shall take place on various channels, including Chiba TV, Sun TV, BS11, KBS Kyoto, Tokyo MX, and Gunma TV, all according to their designated time slot for native audiences.

International viewers, on the other hand, may view the episode on HIDIVE or Netflix, which recently began streaming the show. Nevertheless, the timing of the episode's premiere shall vary based on the viewer's geographical location and time zone.

In episode 3 of Oshi no Ko, Aqua and Ruby met Kana, the child actor whom the former worked with in the past. They discussed their educational plans, with Aqua choosing General Education and Ruby opting for performing arts.

He got the role of the villain in the show's concluding episode, hoping to obtain a DNA sample from Kaburagi to see if he was his biological father. During the shoot, Aqua notices that Kana is not performing at her best. She explains that the majority of the actors were cast for their looks rather than their acting ability, which is why she needs to hold back a little or else the others might end up looking like a poor actor.

Kana had to work hard to build up her understanding of nature, which led to her being cast more frequently. Later, Aqua overheard the producer discussing how they were using Kana's celebrity status to make her work for less money, which highlighted the industry's unethical practices. He takes the producer's discarded cigarette butt, planning to use it for his own purposes. The episode ends with Aqua determined to give his best performance as the villain.

Unfortunately, there is not a new episode 12 of Oshi No Ko releasing today on Wednesday, July 5 because the anime series actually wrapped up its first season last week with the premiere of episode 11 on June 28.

More good news for fans of the Oshi No Ko anime series is that season 2 was confirmed to be in production only a few minutes after the episode 11 finale aired for domestic audiences in Japan last week.

Yes, it is true. Oshi no Ko episode 8 has been delayed. Today marks the release of episode 7, but the anime's team is looking ahead to its next release. It turns out the crew has delayed the release of Oshi no Ko episode 8, so it will no longer be released on May 31st.

Instead, the new episode of Oshi no Ko will go live on June 7th, so it will kick off the month right. To fill in the delay, Oshi no Ko plans on catching fans up with a special program on May 31st. The special will be a compilation of sorts to catch up new fans with the series. So if you are brand-new to the series, be warned! There are things in Oshi no Ko's premiere you do not want spoiled before seeing it firsthand, so be careful online!
