Hi everyone,

 

Our friends at Waverly UCC have asked if we’ll help with their Souperbowl Sunday Food Drive supporting the work of Mainspring, a community hub that provides food, clothing, and other items to support needy Portlanders. Donations of non-perishable food and cash ($1=1 lb.) are welcome! Please bring anything you can by February 8 (Super Bowl Sunday).

Could you share this with the Sacred Harp folks? Our goal has been to beat the combined weight of the two heaviest Super Bowl players. But with so many in need, we hope to do better and top 1,000 lbs of food this year.

Super Bowl season is here and Waverly Heights is again taking up our decades-long tradition — a special “Souperbowl” collection of food and cash to support the Mainspring food pantry. Perhaps you have already seen the attached flyer in the building.

 

Mainspring has a history that goes back to 1967, providing food and social services to the homeless and other vulnerable neighbors in East Portland. Each year, Waverly’s food drive delivers non-perishable food and dollars to the Mainspring program. This year, times are particularly hard for so many in our city. It can feel overwhelming. But, here’s a simple way you can step in to help make a difference.

 

In the upstairs sanctuary entry you will find a red bin for donated non-perishable foods. If you wish to make a monetary gift, look for the black metal donations lock box attached to the wall at the top of the stairs. Use the provided envelopes or a pen to identify that your contribution should go to the Souperbowl food drive.

 

Donations will be collected regularly for the next couple of weeks. We hope you will participate!
