Hi, all --
As promised at singing today, I'm writing with an update on the Laurelhurst Club situation and a request to schedule a new business meeting.
We (Cheryl, Betsy, Emma, Tamara, and myself) wrote to the Laurelhurst neighborhood association about POSH's unusual circumstances. While we didn't get our old rate back, they did give us a $1000 discount (to $2500 total) for this October's Convention only. Since we had resolved at the last business meeting to go forward with Laurelhurst no matter what, we agreed to that rate on behalf of the group, and the contract for our fall 2026 dates is now in progress.
Unfortunately, while there's some room for more negotiation about the future, we're not optimistic about keeping that discount for spring (let alone going back to our old rate). So we'd like to propose a business meeting to (1) discuss the Laurelhurst Club's response and our options for the future, and (2) accomplish three things:
- establish a venue committee to research potential spaces (for spring 2027 and beyond) and report back to the group by an agreed-upon date
- establish a person or committee for ongoing outreach/negotiation with the Laurelhurst Club and Neighborhood Association
- establish a group to look into the process/pros/cons of pursuing formal nonprofit status and report back to the group
This is too much business for a quick meeting at singing, we need good attendance to deal with these issues, and we're now in chaotic summer scheduling season, so we're proposing a weekday evening meeting sometime in the next two months. Here's a poll where you can identify days that you might be able attend:
https://rallly.co/invite/XASDHayHJakII've restricted it to Tues/Weds/Thurs options to make it less overwhelming. We'll sort out exact hours and location (probably Betsy's) when we have a sense of what the best available dates are.
Thanks, everyone! And fingers crossed we can find good options for future singings.
