Hello friends--
at our business meeting this afternoon, we voted to do the following:
1. Commited to having the October convention at the Laurelhurst Club in October, in spite of the very steep increase in charges, as there is probably not sufficient time to find another venue before October.
2.--have a delegation to contact the board of the Laurelhurst Club to see if there is leeway to negotiate the October rate, in view of our longstanding relationship with the club--hopefully within the next 2 weeks.
Tamara and Cheryl both live in the Laurelhurst neighborhood, and Tamara agreed to take the lead in talking to them. Kate-Laurel has contact info that she will share with them.
3. Sign the contract and pay the deposit by the end of May at the latest, as there is a real risk of the venue being rented out to some other party if we delay. (There is a "soft hold" on the date for us, but that is not a firm reservation.)
Nell is willing to be the person who signs the contract, if Mary can't do it.
4. Continue to investigate other potential venues for May 2027 and beyond.

NEEDED:
1. Someone to replace me as primary contact person for the venue --ASAP.This person could perhaps head up the location committee (see below).
2.A  location committee of folks who are willing to investigate other possible venues, organize test singings, and so on. Sooner is better than later.

Have I left anything out? Hope not!

Hi all,

I just noticed something on the Laurelhurst Club website that may help our case. Is describing the "story" of the Club (https://www.thelaurelhurstclub.com/about/ ), they say:

"The walls of The Laurelhurst Club have echoed with music and laughter for over 100 years. From 1995 until 2020, the venue was operated by The Laurelhurst Dance Club, popular for its monthly ballroom dances and seasonal community sing-alongs."

I think the sing-alongs are POSH. If we're central enough to be part of their story,  they we're central enough to deserve a much lower rate. I wonder what they charge the dance club?

Hope this helps the negotiating team.

Nell
