I'm interested in the best kind of water storage for my home and for at work. At home I am currently using glass jars and growlers, stored inside a heavy duty plastic storage container, on my basement floor, underneath a table. The fact that it's in the basement is just because I haven't figured out a better way to put it upstairs (which is much wiser) in my extra bedroom where it doesn't look like I'm a crazy prepper... The heavy duty box is fine in a garage or basement, but in a carpeted bedroom it screams prepper. I've actually been looking for some kind of low furniture to hide my supplies in. Low, because I can't screw things into our walls (we rent). Would need some shelves that have a cover in the front - don't want wire shelves (I already use them in my kitchen but that's different).

Anyway, I have seen the water packets, water cans, and water in plastic bottles. If I was storing these in a covered shelf, then they would not get much light but they would be warmer than in my basement since the room gets a lot of light and we don't have AC. That still makes me conscious of bacterial growth and plastic breakdown. I'm considering going with the packets (soft plastic) even though they are wasteful, somewhat small, and I haven't tried them before. I would be curious what other people have tried.

At work I can store things in an extra filing cabinet at my desk, which is cool/dry/secure. I think the water packets would work well. I already have a water purifier at home and at work, but of course those rely on having water to filter.
