I just bought two walkie talkies off of Amazon and I haven't yet done the research to get the user manual or find any videos. But I was wondering if anyone is a pro at them and wanted to do a little class in person? At this point I have no idea how to do anything other than turn them on and press talk.

Hi Katy! Congrats on your purchase of a pair of radios! The basics of what you need to know (1) how to turn it on/off, (2) how to charge it or change batteries, (3) how to turn up/ down the volume, and (4) how to change channels. On the 3rd item, depending on the type of radio, you may have an option to add a 'Code' to the channel.

Play around with them, but do Google the manufacturer make/ model of the radios -- each one is different -- as it might not be inherently obvious as to what your radio capabilities are. If they are fancy, it's actually harder since it's sometimes easy to get lost in the menu structure. Your best bet to learn them is to use them!. Which neighborhood are you with? The local NETs would be able to show you how to use your radio. In fact, we'll be practicing with radios at the Arbor Lodge Kenton NET team monthly April Meeting (April 18th). You are welcome to practice with us.

I should have mentioned that, sorry. I am the Boise NET lead (and also Eliot and Humboldt, by virtue of there not being a NET for them yet).

I have 2 Motorola 350R FRS radios. I can turn on/off, charge them, but don't know how to change channels yet.

We don't have any other folks in the NET that have radios yet. I wanted someone else to figure it out and show the rest of us, but no one did, so I'm slowly figuring it out.

What time is the Arbor Lodge meeting on the 18th, and where?

Here's the link to your radio's manual: http://www.motorolasolutions.com/en_us/products/two-way-radios/consumer-two-way-radios/mr350r-talkabout-two-way-radio.html#tabresource Note: You do have a 'fancy' radio... as I like to call it, so it does have some extra bells & whistles which makes it a little harder to navigate. Please do read through the manual to learn the menu structure & which buttons do what. I have two sets of Motorola FRS radios -- they both operate different from one another.

Congrats on taking the lead for Boise NET! Please do stop by our drill. Our meetings are 3rd Mondays @ 7pm at Kenton Historic Firestation. As mentioned, this month we're practicing radio calls. See our meeting info at: https://portlandprepares.org/net-teams/north/arbor-lodge-kenton/

It'll be good to meet you! -Susan.

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. I finally read the radio manual, and tested out the main settings. I'm going to turn to a FRS-only channel (8) today and test them out while out kayaking with friends.
Thanks for your help!
Katy
