Subject: Calling all Chefs/Nutritionists!

Hi Everyone,

I am the sustainability program coordinator at Portland YouthBuilders,
a non-profit serving low-income Portland youth, age 17 – 24.  We offer
education, vocational training in construction or computer technology,
leadership development and job readiness.

One of the amazing programs we offer our students is Fields to Forks.
It was developed to increase our student’s access to affordable, local
and organic food.  It also introduces them to sustainable farming and
gardening practices, green jobs training and the skills to plan, shop
and cook healthy meals.  That is where the chef comes in!

Part of the program involves the students working at our local farmers
market and meeting with chefs who help them shop for produce and plan
a menu for a meal they will cook for their peers at school.  The
following Monday, the same chef meets the students to prepare the meal
and teach various culinary skills as well as basic nutrition.

The commitment is approximately 10-12 hours between one Sunday and
Monday in July or August.  There is a stipend offered to the chef for
participating also.

Please let me know if you are interested or know of someone who might
be interested in signing up or just learning more about the program.
It is a great opportunity for our students and an exciting chance for
passionate chefs/nutritionists to get into the community and share
their knowledge and expertise with local Portland youth!

Many Thanks,

Samantha
