Greetings everyone
So the community gardens forum was a eye opener in the needs of the
Portland Community Gardens. One very important thing I learned was
the for a plot to be considered a site for the Portland community
gardens it must be at least 7500 SQFT that’s a lot of space. Now again
this shows where Portland Yard Sharing can step in. I don’t anticipate
that we would have a space available anywhere close to 7500 SQFT, this
means a lot of available plots out there can be serviced by the PYS
community.
Also Portland Yard Sharing was well received as a possible alternative
for people who are on the waiting list for PCG. There was a lot of
enthusiasm about what we could do to help one another. I am interested
in how PYS can be more efficiently a bridge from not having a garden
to having a garden and then if your still in need or want the
opportunity to be part of the Portland community gardens.
There was a great representation of local organizations who want to
assist in change for the Portland Community gardens. A few that were
there in note were The Office for Community Development, friends of
the community gardens, Friends of Zenger farms, The Learning Gardens
institute, City Gardens, Bridger School, AmeriCorps and of course us
from Portland yard sharing.
All in all there were many wonderful ideas about how to help the
community gardens. Lets band together in ideas about how not only to
help the Portland Community Gardens but also to help grow
