Hello:
Thanks for your interest in my efforts to create some sort of urban
garden and open air market on our vacant land adjacent to Singer Hill
Cafe. If you still have an interest, I'd like to meet with you (and a
few others) at the Singer Hill Cafe at Sunday at 4pm.
My current thinking on this idea is reflected on a page on the Singer
Hill Website <
http://www.singerhill.com/home/index.php?
option=com_content&task=view&id=21&Itemid=48> . As you
see from looking at that, I've decided to take on the task of
organizing the "Singer Hill Gardens" -- a yet-to-be-created non-profit
entity.
It is my preliminary thought that the Singer Hill Gardens will be a
membership organization that will include two basic classes of people
-- producers and consumers.
Producers will include (a) people who make their living gardening
(i.e. licensed contractors), and who expect to be paid for their
efforts on behalf of the Gardens; (b) people who are not licensed and
who want to trade their labor in exchange for a cooperative share of
the produce of the garden, or who simply want to volunteer, (c) people
who are willing to pay for the right to garden (e.g. by renting a
plot); (d) people who may want to sell produce to the market, for
resale to the public.
Consumers will include people who (a) pay (upfront) for a share of the
produce from the garden; and (b) people who pay for produce at out
open air market.
I am writing to you as a potential "producer."
I'd like your help putting together a business plan and design for the
gardens. Once we do that, I plan on calling another meeting, this
time inviting community members who hopefully will be Garden
"consumers."
If the right mix producers and consumers can come together on a
business plan, we should be able raise enough money "up front" to
induce producers to provide the work needed to make this idea work.
I've tentatively set an initial "producers" meeting for this Sunday at
4pm, at Singer Hill, to discuss how we can get this ball rolling..
I've run yet another Craig's list ad to solicit more help. Here's a
link to that ad <
