Steve, you mentioned in the podcast that you could get two of your chosen tweeters for $4.  I don't see them listed on the parts list other than "Clone of Motorola/CTS KSN-1005 (not DigiKey)".

Can you point us specifically to the tweeters you mentioned?

I'm going to tackle 2.2.0 -- my brother has a burning need for it.

Here's my ad-hoc list of "typical" sources:

MOTOROLA / CTS  PIEZO  TWEETER / KSN-1005

The optimal TWEETER still needs to be widely "characterized" for use with this project.

We're just taking this one step at a time.  The first goal was to nail down the optimal power driving system... and with v2.2.0 I still believe that we have finally nailed it in spades.

I have spent the past three days working on solving the problem of a continuously variable frequency drive and as of late last night I am hopeful that I am onto another kickass optimal solution... though I still have a lot of work to do.

ONCE those bits are nailed down, I will turn my attention to the question of the tweeter.  But I DO still believe that the v2.2.0 design will be the final power driver for an "inductance tuned" oscillator.

So... if you want to wait another few weeks, I hope we'll know more about the optimal tweeter source, but neither can you go far wrong if you choose any of those listed above.  :)

/Steve.

Ah, got it.  My brother has an urgent need, and I was going to put one together this week.  I have a few grab bags of resistors, capacitors, inductors and switches, so I was planning to put something together for him to have right now (or really quickly).  The tweeter is the only part I don't have handy.

I recently picked up a nice soldering station (Hakko FX-888) and have been itching to do a full (albeit small) project.

You're saying that you happen to have a Microchip Inverting MOSFET Driver IC in your grab bag?  If so, that's a VERY impressive grab bag... and I'm jealous!  <g>

The only "glitch" with v2.2.0 from a "grab bag" standpoint is that it does require a CMOS inverter with beefy output drive.  But... really... that's ALL the TC4421A chip is.  So if you have, for example, a hex CMOS output (not open collector) inverter handy (you might well have that in a grab bag!) you could put all SIX of the inverters in parallel (all inputs together and all outputs together) and see whether it might do the job!  :)

Nice!  I have an antique (30+ years old) Weller Solder Station that's served me so well over the years.

Oh!  I remember that testimonial!!  <g>  Thanks!

<g> Heh, okay 2 items.  I do have some timers and whatnot, so I may be able to get it going.  I'll start with the cheapest tweeters on your list and keep up on developments.
