Hi! I am a new user and I want to thank you for creating the software package!

Unless I am doing something wrong, the .exe file needs admin privileges to run. I downloaded the newest 5.6 version linked on the website. I would really love to be able to use this without admin privileges.

Thanks

Hi,

I'm not aware of a requirement to run anything with admin privileges- I think this would be down to the security settings on the computer you're trying to use. Certainly on my test computers (windows 7 and 10) don't need admin privileges at all.

Thanks

Jo

Hi,

I am also encountering the same problem. When I tried to run the portablegis_setup_v56.exe file, the system prompt for an administrator password and if I supplied my own account credentials, the system will come back with the error that "the requested operation requires elevation". Due to the sensitiveness of the work environment, we do not have admin rights to our machine, so I'm really hoping to run QGIS as a portable app without any installation required.

Regards,
WL

Hi,

If it's the installation file rather than the software itself that is asking for elevated privileges then all I can suggest is that you install it onto a USB stick on a different computer, if you have access to one, and then use it from the USB stick on the locked down computer. Otherwise you could try to copy the relevant files across to the computer you want to use it on. You would need to maintain the file structure for the software to work correctly, so if you just want qgis you would still need to copy over the usbgis folder with apps\qgis2 in it to the root of a drive, then you should be able to run apps\qgis2\qgis.bat to start it. Unfortunately if your machine is very locked down then even running a batch file may be prohibited.

Regards

Jo
