Cheryl and I just returned from an outing celebrating our 30th Wedding Anniversary.  Please forgive the tardiness of thanks to all of your for making Place Matters a resounding success.

Mentioned by many participants, the tour was one of the best ever.  Everyone appreciated visiting each site, and  to my surprise, the bikes were a hit!  Thanks to everyone for amazing planning and execution.  If I fail to mention someone, please forgive my remembrance because my heart is overwhelmed by your work!

Special thanks to the planning team: Ray Smith, Rev. Duvall, Margaret Morgan-Hubbard, Viviana Lindo, Sadara Barrow (Wow, what an awesome tour) and Celeste James -for breaking the mold of any Place Matters tour;  Ray Smith and Rev. Duvall for coordinating an innovative exercise program; Margaret Morgan-Hubbard and ECO City Farms teams including Viviana Lindo, Christian Melendez, Benny Erez and Amanda West fantastic on leading participants around the farm and coordinating the reception; Rev. Gail Addison and Demilade Adebayo and Michaela Peterson were wonderful on the bus; Anacostia Watershed Society for scheduling the boats - the Anacostia River tour was very well received;  Debbie Tyner and Steve Carter for arranging the bikes and Rangers one of the highlights of the tour; Mayor Walter James and his daughter for biking with the participants;  enormous thanks goes to Mayor Michael Hale and Judy Myers for hosting an incredible reception and dinner event; Mayor, thanks for welcoming this national effort;and Margaret thanks for arranging the music and meditation.

I think that's it; but if I failed to mention someone please respond to this message. Other congratulations must include Laura Flamm and the Food Policy Task Force (Margaret Morgan-Hubbard, Gul Guleryuz, Susan Tweet) for their work in getting the Food Equity Council Resolution  passed by the County Council; and, our Communications Team (Celeste James, Kimberly Singletary, Sabrina McGowen and Nancy Mayes) for editing the Gazette Op-ed piece and the new markup on our web page. I wanted to name everyone to illustrate the depth of our Partnership.  On July 10, we showed others our work; not as individuals but as a Partnership.  Remember the discussion led by Natalie Burke, what participants saw was a Partnership that is doing tremendous work under incredible odds.  They did not call out one group or one effort, they acknowledged the Port Towns.  I hope you see that power of Partnership and what is possible when we link together.

Much more must be done to advance health and wellness in our community.  However, we are the example and can be the model.

Thank you!

The tour was a wonderful experience.  The Joint Center posted photos taken on the tour and at dinner on their website (under Action Lab Documents header): http://www.jointcenter.org/hpi/events/action-lab-4-july10-12-2013

I was one of the tour guides as well and I can echo first hand the sentiments shared by the Place Matters participants.  They were very engaged in, and more importantly, very informed by our collective work here in the Port Towns.  Thanks David and the entire PTCHP extended team.

All,

I want to add my THANKS and CONGRATS for what I agree was an exceptional afternoon and evening.  Really well executed, every step of the way.  David, major kudos to you for your ongoing leadership.  You are inspiring us all to great heights!

A quick note:  It has been part of the Place Matters tradition at these Labs for the Place Matters team members to collectively acknowledge, in a small way, an organization whose work touched us along the tour.  As such, the teams collected $900 in personal donations and asked that it be given to the Port Towns Youth Council, through End Time Harvest Ministries.  Rev. Gail, the work that you are doing to build young champions for health...and Margaret, that you are supporting through your year-round youth-centered programs on the farms, left quite an impression!  Hats off!

Rev. Gail, I'll call tomorrow to coordinate a time when I can drop the funds off to you.

Best,
Celeste.
