Idecided to jump on the bandwagon and try out the new "Pro" version of the webcam utility when I received the email. I even paid for the year subscription, hoping this software will solve a problem I had with the older version and let me use my M50 Mk II instead of my R6. However, when I start the software after subscribing, I am prevented from using any subscriber features, and every 30 seconds or so I receive a message: "Activation Service Access Failure". The utility app shows that I have an active subscription, but the activation service error continues to appear no matter how many times I follow the advice to logout and try again later.

If this issue cannot be resolved soon, I will be cancelling my subscription. Why pay for something that you can't access? I really want this to work, and I'm willing to pay the annual subscription if it does work.

Incidentally, all help articles are for the original version (two years out of date) and there is no content to be found anywhere for this version or this issue. If you need a technical writer to fix that, I have over 20 years experience and I am currently available.

I'm sorry to hear your pro subscription isn't loading correctly in the EOS Webcam Utility. Since the issue is continuing even after adding the software to your firewall whitelist and uninstalling/re-installing it at that point we would recommend calling to trouble shoot your account. The EOS Webcam Utility phone support team can be reached at 1-844-226-6692 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern time Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday.

We appreciate feedback on trouble shooting articles customers would like us to add. We do take customer suggestions and feedback into consideration when we are updating our products, articles, and processes.

Apparently, the issue is only happening on my main desktop computer running Windows 10 with all current updates. I am slowly removing other software to see if I can find the source of the conflict. At least I have alternatives available that do work, so I can move forward testing the utility during the trial phase. I really hope I don't have to reinstall everything on that computer to start fresh.

Hi! So for work I've been using a Tri-camera setup through OBS, one of my cameras I use is an R6, so I knew I'd need to use EOS webcam utility software to allow it to be useable through OBS. But after updating my mac to OS 14.1, and then opening OBS, the EOS webcam utility wasn't even listed as an option as a source. Having done some research I saw that so far the software is only updated to MacOS 13, not 14. So I was wondering if Canon (or anyone else in the community) knows when or if they plan to release an updated version on the software so it can be directly compatible through OBS again?

I had thought it used the EOS Utility 2, but apparently it uses the EOS Utility 3, which seems to be the determining factor when it comes to compatibility. Let's first make sure that the EOS Utility 3 can connect to the camera, then work our way up to Web Cam.

I do not think your camera is listed as being supported. Instructions say not to use the web version of some apps, and I think Zoom was one of them. Did you shut down the EOS Utility Launcher Service in the System Tray?

According to -help-center/eos-webcam-utility/, EOS Rebel T6 is supported. I tried using the Webcam utility before ever installing the basic Canon Utility (I normally use my Mac for transferring images, but want to use the webcam for work on my PC). So, the basic Utility was not interferring.

I later installed the basic Utility, and it can't see the camera either. I'm using the correct USB cable, I even tried 2 of them. is there anything to enable in the camera for the USB port to work? If not, it's possible that there's a policy on my PC that prevents external cameras being attached...

You just need to make sure your camera is on, in video mode, not recording, and that the USB cable is connected to a good USB port - usually on a desktop PC, it'll be a rear port that works best. If you're on a laptop, your laptop will need to be plugged into its power adapter.

Yes, I've done all of those things. I'm not alone in this problem with that exact same logo shown in Zoom. While searching YouTube for hints to get this working, someone commented there with a Rebel T6 with the exact same problem. Maybe we both have bad cables or other PC problems, or maybe the T6 doesn't really work with this yet? But the fact that the EOS Utility itself can't detect the camera tells me that something is really wrong. I've tried 2 cables, but I'll look for a 3rd...

I just purchased a Canon EOS Rebal T7 and all of the necessary cords to connect it as my webcam. I downloaded the EOS Webcam Utility and installed it without problem, and it immediately popped up as an option in my webcam lists. The problem is that when I go to use it as my device, it only shows a screen that says EOS Webcam Utility and a picture of a USB cable and a red X above it. My camera is connected via USB through what I'm quite confident is the correct cable. I have tried on both battery and plugged in with the adapter. I have tried all the things I have found on the internet so far (restarting my computer, restarting the camera, changing the memory card, checked that I'm in movie mode and not recording, turned off the auto-power off, turned off the camera wifi). I'm out of ideas and I really want this to work (it's the whole reason I bought this camera).

Well, it certainly sounds like you have checked all of the boxes. I still do not know what the "Red X" may mean. It either means your device is not supported, or it thinks that a webcam is not connected.

A good test of your setup is whether or not you can run the regular EOS Utlity to download files. A better test is whether or not you can use the regular EOS Utility for Remote Shooting. If this works, then we know your cable is good. Besides, it seems like the Webcam Utility might need something that that the regular EOS Utility installs on the system.

If it does not work, the problem could be either your cable or the USB port on your computer. Try all of the ports on your computer. Some users hve reported that USB ports on the front of their tower PCs do not work, but the main port on the rear of the PC would workl. This caused by some USB ports are actually coming off of an internal USB port expander. Canon cameras and USB port expanders do not seem to like one another.

Which brings us to your atual PC. So, what make and model of computer are you using. Just running Windows 10 only partailly meets the requirements. There are hardware requirements, too, which have to be met. They might look like this.

Finally, you need to make sure tha tthe EOS Utlity Launcher Service is not running when you try to use the Webcam Driver. There is an icon in the System Tray that shows you when it is running. If it is running, then the Webcam driver seems like itis blocked from accessing the camera by the EOS Utility Launcher Service.

If this is the image you were getting like I was make sure that your cameras Wi-Fi connection is disabled as having the Wi-Fi function on will disable the cameras HDMI, USB ports. Which will prohibit the camera from connecting to your computer. It took me hours before I read the prompt it gave me when I was trying to get my camera to connect to Wi-Fi on my computer. When I disabled the Wi-Fi feature the camera finally connected.

Note that when it did start to work, the canon helper program started, and the error message in OBS changed display, but OBS wasn't fixed immediately. However, once I closed canon's problem, the image in OBS adjusted.

I can now use the camera as a webcam from OBS directly connecting the camera to my computer via mini-usb.

I have a Canon 7D Mark II and a Macbook running MacOS 10.15.7 running the 1.1 release of the EOS Webcam Utility. I have the camera setup as a webcam and works great except for one new behavior. If I'm in a meeting longer than 30 minutes, it'll shutoff almost exactly at 30 minutes for a couple seconds and then reconnect. It sounds like it is power cycling. In the Setting menu I already adjusted the Auto Power Off to disabled. When I had the beta webcam utility, this wasn't happening. Only really started noticing it after I updated it to 1.1.

Thank you. Once I read this part properly "You'll see the volume name...." and stopped trying to guess what my Volume was called, the rest was easy. I did encounter an issue that the New Teams would only display the logo for the EOS webcam app and not my actual camera. However, I switched back to Teams Classic and it works great. Thank you for taking the time to post!!!

The fact that you say the regular EOS Utility works just fine could be a sign of what the problem could be. The regular EOS Utility should not be running when you try to use the Webcam Utility because the camera is capable of communicating with only one app at a time through the USB port.

By default, this service starts up every time you turn on your computer. Its purpose is to detect when a Canon camera has been connected to a USB port, determine the model, and then launch either the EOS Utility 2 or EOS Utility 3. As long as this service is running, it will block the WebCam Utility service from accessing the camera through the USB port.

I assume that you are using the same USB cable that works when you use the regular EOS Utility. I assume the cable is good. The other possibility is that you have wireless communications enabled, which can cause the camera to ignore the USB port until Wi-Fi and/or Bluebeam are disabled.

The applications that I am trying to get the camera utility to work on are the Camera App that is baked into windows. And Flightscope golf simulator software app. Both just show the EOS Webcam utility logo. They do seem like they are about to load the image, but it always just ends up the gray background with EOS Webcam Utility displayed on it.
