At this kickoff show to Porchlight's 2018 Neighborhood Project, we turn our ear to stories from San Francisco's illustrious and fabled North Beach. Expect true tales from an assortment of rabblerousers, bon vivants, and special guests including Lyle Tuttle, V. Vale, Peggy Knickerbocker, Jack Hirschman,
Stacey Lewisand more TBA.
Jack Hirschmanis an American poet and social activist who has written more than 50 volumes of poetry and essays.
Peggy Knickerbockeris a freelance food and travel author who lives in San Francisco. She is a longtime contributing editor to Saveur and received a James Beard Foundation nomination for her article “Old Stoves of North Beach,” which was published in that magazine. She was a contributing editor to Gourmet, writing for them as the San Francisco scout. She has written, too, for Food and Wine, House and Garden, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Los Angeles Times and The New York Times.
Stacey Lewis has lived in the Bay Area for 25 years, working at City Lights for 23 of them! This is her 4th time at Porchlight, where she previously shared bad dating and holiday stories. She lives in Berkeley with her family.
Lyle Tuttle is an American tattoo artist and historian of the medium, who has been tattooing since 1949.
V. "Valhalla" Valeis a writer, keyboard player and, as Vale Hamanaka, was a member of the initial configuration of Blue Cheer, prior to that band becoming famous as a power trio. He is the publisher and primary contributor to books and magazines published by his company, RE/Search Publications. Vale is the host of the television talk show Counter Culture Hour on Public-access television cable TV channel 29 in San Francisco.
