The Show
At this kickoff show to Porchlight's 2018 Neighborhood Project, we turn our ear to stories from San Francisco's illustrious and fabled North Beach. Expect true tales from an assortment of rabblerousers, bon vivants, and special guests! Buy a table or 4, a seat at the table or standing room at the bar! Limited space!!

Singer Songwriter Jesse DeNatale is a fourth generation San Franciscan now living in Sonoma County California. He has released two critically acclaimed albums, Shangri-La West and Soul Parade. He is presently at work on another album.

Pia Hinckle is a San Francisco editor and writer. Her work has appeared in The San Francisco Examiner, Chronicle, and Bay Guardian, Salon, Columbia Journalism Review, and Newsweek. She is the co-author of "The Court That Tamed the West" (Heyday) and consulting editor of "Who Killed Hunter S. Thompson?" (Last Gasp) by Warren Hinckle. She is publisher of The FruitGuys Magazine.

Jack Hirschman is an American poet and social activist who has written more than 50 volumes of poetry and essays.

Peggy Knickerbocker is a freelance food and travel author who lives in San Francisco. The author of four cookbooks, she is a longtime contributing editor to Saveur and received a James Beard Foundation nomination for her article “Old Stoves of North Beach,” which was published in that magazine. She was a contributing editor to Gourmet, writing for them as the San Francisco scout. She has written, too, for Food and Wine, House and Garden, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Los Angeles Times and The New York Times. She started her career running the restaurant at Mooney's Irish Pub with Flicka McGurrin back in the 1970s.

Stacey Lewis has lived in the Bay Area for 25 years, working at City Lights for 23 of them! This is her 4th time at Porchlight, where she previously shared bad dating and holiday stories. She lives in Berkeley with her family.

Lyle Tuttle is an American tattoo artist and historian of the medium, who has been tattooing since 1949.

V. Vale is the legendary San Francisco-based publishing entrepreneur behind the RE/Search Publications book imprint, which has been documenting underground and unknown subcultures of all stripes for over 40 years. Before founding RE/Search, Vale launched a ground-breaking Punk zine called Search & Destroy, which is still considered one of the most important cultural punk publications ever. Vale is also a “closet musician” -- former keyboardist for the first incarnation of Blue Cheer. Occasionally, finding an unoccupied piano, he regales casual audiences with his pop-classical improvisations.
