Streaminggiant Netflix has released a trailer for a new documentary called The Hunt For Veerappan, which will attempt to showcase the manhunt that had ensued to catch the criminal.NETFLIX TO RELEASE A NEW DOCU ON VEERAPPAN
In the shared video, we see former Minister of Home Affairs LK Advani, speaking to the media about how the issue has become a national concern for the government. Meanwhile, various voiceovers inform us that Veerappan was not just a person, but a unique phenomenon, who had also earned the label of the 'Robinhood of India' by a section of people.
Could it be that director Ram Gopal Varma, who gave us contemporary Hindi classics such as Satya, Company, Shool and Sarkar before slipping into oblivion with duds like Ram Gopal Varma ki Aag, has got his mojo back? Seems like he has, if the Hindi trailer of his upcoming film Veerappan, released online on Monday, is anything to go by.
The remake stars Sachiin J Joshi, Usha Jadhav and Lisa Ray, apart from Sandeep Bhardwaj in the titular role. Aniket Khandagale is the cinematographer of the film and Jeet Ganguly has scored its music. It is scheduled for release in May 2016.
Story:
Several special officers and police officers get killed in their pursuit of nabbing smuggler Veerappan (Sandeep Bharadwaj). One Special task force officer (Shiva Rajkumar) believes that he has some methods that can work in catching Veerappan. His initial methods only result in failures. Learning from failures, he starts playing mind games with Veerappan that lead to killing him as the title suggests.
Like the trailer promised, the movie also is told in feverish way. Though it is not on par with his best movies, still Killing Veerappan is better one from him in the recent times. From start to finish, he has told it in engrossing manner.
As the title say the movie is all about killing of Veerappan. Hence we know the climax beforehand, despite this Ram Gopal Varma has succeeded in keeping the tempo. This is indeed an achievement. The interval shoot out in the forest is OK. The climax build-up scenes are also good.
The trailer of Veerappan begins with a quote by Voltaire: A society gets a criminal it deserves. A comparison with Osama Bin Laden follows; how it took 10 years to nab and kill Osama, while Veerappan made authorities chase him for 20 years before being killed.
