Dear Friend:
The People's Organization For Progress (POP) invites you to march with us in the annual Reparations For African Americans March & Rally, Saturday, June 22, 2019, 11:30am at the Lincoln Statue, 2 Springfield Avenue in Newark, New Jersey.
The statue is located in front of the historic Essex County Courthouse at
intersection of West Market Street & Springfield Avenue.
There will be a rally at the statue after the march.
POP wants you to participate in this event and needs your help to mobilize
people for the march. Please assist by informing the members of your
organization, supporters, friends and people in your community about the march.
The purpose of the march is to make public the demand that African Americans receive reparations for the damage done to them by the institution and system of slavery, and the related forms of racial oppression, exploitation, discrimination, injustice and violence stemming from it.
We are marching to demand that Congress ratify H.R. 40, The Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African-Americans, a bill sponsored by Rep. John Conyers.
POP wants congressional representatives from New Jersey to become co-sponsors
of the bill. We also want our U.S. Senators for to sponsor companion bills in
the Senate.
POP wants to see a bill similar to H.R. 40 passed by the New Jersey State
Legislature, and supporting resolutions passed by county freeholder boards and
municipal councils because slavery existed throughout this state.
Passage of H.R. 40 and similar bills at the state level would be a major and
meaningful first step toward reparations for African Americans in the United
States.
Any assistance you can give in mobilizing people for this march will be greatly appreciated.
If you have any questions or need more information contact POP at 973 801-0001. I look forward to seeing you on June 22nd. Power to the people!!!
Sincerely,
Lawrence Hamm
