When working with the Dropbox APIs, your app will access Dropbox on behalf of your users. You'll need to have each user of your app sign into dropbox.com to grant your app permission to access their data on Dropbox.

From the Dropbox box tab (.../admin/dropbox) you may select files to batch add as individual items - note that one file creates one item). When selecting files, you may also add them to a collection and associate the same set of tags, make the items public or feature them.

If you are using this mode then using "rclone check" after thetransfer completes is recommended. Or you could do an initial transferwith --dropbox-batch-mode async then do a final transfer with--dropbox-batch-mode sync (the default).

Note that if you want to use impersonate, you should make sure thisflag is set when running "rclone config" as this will cause rclone torequest the "members.read" scope which it won't normally. This isneeded to lookup a members email address into the internal ID thatdropbox uses in the API.

If you have more than 10,000 files in a directory then rclone purge dropbox:dir will return the error Failed to purge: There are too many files involved in this operation. As a work-around do anrclone delete dropbox:dir followed by an rclone rmdir dropbox:dir.

When using rclone link you'll need to set --expire if using anon-personal account otherwise the visibility may not be correct.(Note that --expire isn't supported on personal accounts). See theforum discussion and thedropbox SDK issue.

P.S. Unchecking the preserve modification timestamp tells dropbox that the file has been modified and it should be sync'd. Note that mounting the container modifies the timestamp even if you don't change any file in it. If you don't want that to happen, simply mount the volume as read-only

We would not see this breach as a reason to not be a Dropbox user. This is a good moment to reflect and ensure generally good security practices, such as regularly rotating passwords and setting up MFA on your dropbox account. Also, as always, be aware of any suspicious emails and unfamiliar URLs that end up in your email box.

Before launching dropboxAUR for the first time, it is mandatory to have python-gpgme installed. Otherwise, the program is unable to sign the binaries and verify the signatures, when it is started the next time. For some reason, dropboxAUR has not marked this package as a required dependency but it is still such.

Since at least version 2.4.6 (see comments around 2013-11-06 on AUR), Dropbox has had an auto-update capability which downloads a new binary to the /.dropbox-dist/ folder. The service then attempts to hand over control to this binary and dies, causing systemd to re-start the service, generating a conflict and an endless loop of log-filling, CPU-eating misery.

For KDE users, no further steps are required, as KDE saves running applications when logging out and restarts them automatically. Similarly for Xfce users, Dropbox will be restarted automatically next time you login since the dropbox.desktop file has been placed in /.config/autostart.

To have Dropbox automatically start when your system boots, simply enable the systemd service, passing your username as the instance identifier. The service unit to be enabled takes the format dropbox@username.

Pay attention to use different .../.dropbox-dist/dropboxd binaries. Even when setting a custom HOME value, the /opt/dropbox/dropbox or /opt/dropbox/dropboxd wrappers allow only one instance and when started they will kill the one already running.

Workarounds have been created; see for example dropbox-fix2AUR[broken link: package not found]. These workarounds are based on substituting the filesystem detection functions by the use of LD_PRELOAD.

Several file managers such as Thunar, GNOME Files or its fork Nemo come with extensions that provide context menu entries for files and folders inside your Dropbox. Most of them will result in a browser action such as opening the file or folder in dropbox.com or sharing the link. If you experience these entries not working, then it is likely you have not set the $BROWSER variable which Dropbox requires. See Environment variables for details.
