Hi there,

I'm an activist at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which is a nonprofit focused on civil liberties and technology. We recently launched a new tool in the United States called democracy.io, which helps connect individuals to their elected representatives more easily. We'd love to talk to you about the tool, both the functionality we have now and some of the ideas we have for the future.

One of the big issues we're grappling with is how we can internationalize our work, as well as how we can integrate democracy.io with other tools, so we're hoping to have that conversation as well. We thought a great way to kick start this conversation was with an actual conversation, i.e. a Google Hangout with anybody interested in the issue. So we'd like to set up a Google Hangout with me, my colleague Danny O'Brien, and my colleague Sina Khanifar for tomorrow (8/25) at 8:30 AM Pacific/15:30 UTC/4:30 PM London time.

Cheers!

Hi Rainey,

I'd be interested in hearing about democracy.io, but this is short notice and I already have a call at that time. Anyhow, please share some notes from the call!

For those who don't know, one of the big problems that democracy.io solves is in contexts where many/most representatives can only be contacted via webforms (very common in the US). The EFF partnered with others including the Sunlight Foundation to create https://github.com/unitedstates/contact-congress/ which crowdsources instructions on how to fill in those webforms. The more web-friendly readme is at https://theunitedstates.io/contact-congress/ It's the best solution I've seen so far to the problem of webforms.

Cheers,

James

Absolutely. We can also talk through a lot of these issues via email; the hangout is just a way to get things started.

Just a reminder that we're doing this in about 30 minutes! I'll send around a link in a bit.

Cheers,

Rainey
