A joint letter was sent to Tamilnadu CM urging her to press the Center not to allow GM trials as it would endanger the people's health and environment.
Translation of the letter
We all express our tanks for saving people of the atate from the Dangers of GM crops and the Technology.
You have repeatedly ensured the people of Tamilnadu, during the Parlimentary election campaign, that they will not be allowed in Tamilnadu, and by that you have ensured our feel of safety.
However there seems to be a danger of that safety feeling through the recent activity of GEAC which permitted about 15 GM crops for open air field trail. The crops include Paddy,Maize, Mustor, Brinjal, etc,.
These GM crops trials are allowed even before ensuring the biosafety of the people, cattle and environment. Allowing the field trials before Biosafety test endanger the health of the people and cattle of the state.
As Chief minister of Tamilnadu and the head of AIADMK You have repeatedly told the people that there is no space of such trials in Tamilnadu.
However no one could stop the pollens could reaching the state through Bees or through air from the other places. Such contaminations have happened in US and the Bayer was forced to pay compensation the the farmers and such contamination happened in other parts of the world also.
The Technical Expert Committee of the Supreme court too warned in its recommendation that such contamination could happen and that will endanger India's agriculture.
The 7 MPs of BJP, many congress MPs and MPs of other parties of the Standing committee for Agriculture under the leadership of Bahsudev Acharya in its report on GM crops had recommended unanimously that G crops are needed for India and the open air field trails should not bellowed in India.
Even the BJP in its 2014 Parlimentary election Manifesto had assure the country that GM crops would not be allowed before ensuring the safety of the crops to the human beings, cattle and environment.
After all these the Centre had come to a stage of allowing open air field trials. As there are every possibility of contamination in Tamilnadu even if the trials are done in other part of the country, We the farmer leader of the state urge th Tamilnadu Chief Minister to put pressure on the Centre not to allow the field trials.
