to Poor's Man Monitor
Hi,

I'm glad to announce a new development release of Poor's Man Monitor.
The changelog is:

- Using the the term 'checks' instead of 'tests' to the attemps to
check if a host is online.
- Now checks are done through all network cards, including wireless,
not only the default route (fping -m).
- More indented code (a twitter.com/turicas suggestion).
- Now pomamonitor.conf requires the usage of quotes to values.
- The pomamonitor.conf content is directly injected to pomamonitor.sh,
without parsing. We'll all grown up men. (a twitter.com/turicas
suggestion).
- Now first check are done in $brief_delay, not in 5 seconds anymore.
This should give enough time to a wireless connection to be up for the
first check.
- Instead of alerting user it is running, pomamonitor only does a
notify-send after the first check, telling if a host is down or if
they're all online.
- The $counter variable, that stores the number of times that checks
were already done in the current run is more widely outputed.
- The $targets_qty variable, that stores the number of targets to
monitor was created and is widely outputed.

So, want to download the latest pomamonitor version? Just do the
procedure:

0) Let's make sure mercurial is installed (required only for
downloading the up to date version):

* For Ubuntu, type the command: sudo aptitude install mercurial
* For Mandriva, type the command: urpmi install mercurial
* For other Linux distributions, just install the package called
mercurial.

1) Let's use mercurial to download the latest version of pomamonitor:

* Type the command: hg clone https://pomamonitor.googlecode.com/hg/
pomamonitor

2) After the download, let's move the conf file to the correct place:
Type the following commands:

* mkdir -p ~/.pomamonitor
* mv pomamonitor/pomamonitor.conf ~/.pomamonitor/

3) You have to edit ~/.pomamonitor/pomamonitor.conf to suit it yo your
needs. This file has useful comments and instructions.

4) Now you may want to place pomamonitor.sh in a convenient directory
and give it execution privileges ( chmod +x ). Do it in the way you
prefer.

5) Using your prefered method, make pomamonitor.sh to run on every
boot. If you use KDE/Gnome/XFCE/, pomamonitor should be started after
this desktop enviroments are loaded.

If you have doubts or problems, just ask in this mailing list.

Thanks,
