Hello All,
Hope you're enjoying these beautiful remnants of summer!
Volunteers for Change has two upcoming opportunities to help our community:
1) Help recycle cardboard at IU
Wednesday, August 26th, noon - 5 pm (any time you can spare)
McNutt Residence Hall: 1101 N. Fee Lane (just south of IU Pool)
* Free parking in all D lots during move-in.
McNutt has D parking just south of the dorm off Fee and behind (west of) the dorms (accessible from 17th and 13th).
I apologize for the late notice, but the student group, Volunteers in Sustainability, just asked us for help. Last year, they recycled over 10 tons of cardboard during move-in and hope to increase that number.
Simply, pick a "Cardboard Only" dumpster and
* help movers break down boxes,
* prevent non-cardboard from getting in these dumpsters, and
* make sure that precious cardboard isn't thrown in the trash!
2) Gardening/Gleaning Project at Stranger's Hill Organic Farm:
Help harvest fresh, organic produce for Hoosier Hills Food Bank.
Saturday, August 29th, 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Gather up your family and friends to have some fun and do good for your community!
You can carpool with others from town or meet up at the Farm. Directions below. Dress appropriately for working outdoors; take into consideration heat, sun, bugs, allergies, etc. There is a bathroom you can use but it is located inside a private home, so please try to use the bathroom before you arrive so that we can limit the amount of traffic inside the home. Bring water, although they can provide water as well.
Stranger's Hill Organic Farm: 7480 N. Howard Rd.
6.5 miles west of Bloomington:
From Highway 37, turn west onto Vernal Pike (the stop light between the 3rd Street/Whitehall Pike exit and S.R. 46 exit) - veer right onto Vernal Pike
When the road splits with Woodyard, stay to the left on Vernal Pike - continue about 5 more miles, crossing over Curry Pike and Hartstraight.
Once you see Thomas Road, look for another slight split in the road.
Curve to the right onto Howard Road. You will see a red barn on your right.
Turn at the drive in front of the red barn and park off to the side. The garden is on the other side of the red barn.
Hope you can make it!
Anne
