Gowri Shankar has rescued and rehabilitated more than 200 king cobras in the Western Ghats. Gowri Shankar has worked as a conservation officer at the Agumbe Rainforest Research Centre.
 
On an average 20 to 25 king cobras are being rescued every month in Karnataka alone. Human- king cobra conflict is on the rise says experts.

 There are nearly 7 king cobra handlers in Karnataka, who help local people in capturing and rehabilitating them back into the forests.
