Problems with Poolparty example

I've been trying to get up and running with this (http://github.com/
emiltin/poolparty_example/tree/master) example application but I keep
getting the following error when I issue the command 'cloud-start':

/Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/auser-poolparty-1.2.2/bin/../lib/poolparty/
net/remoter_base.rb:99:in `launch_instance!': undefined method `[]'
for nil:NilClass (NoMethodError)

Could anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong?

This is likely a problem with setup for running ec2 commands.

Is ec2-describe-instances working for you?

Yeah, this fits. I later figure out that the EC2 instances were
spinning up but the describe_instance method was returning nil.
