TheIndiana University Lilly Library and the Digital Collections Services present the online Jerry Slocum Mechanical Puzzle Collection, which embodies a lifetime pursuit for the intriguing, the perplexing, and the compelling. Unlike word or jigsaw puzzles, mechanical puzzles are hand-held objects that must be manipulated to achieve a specific goal. The Rubik's cube and tangrams are popular examples. Confounding and delightful, precise and whimsical, the puzzles in the Slocum collection represent centuries of mathematical, social, and recreational history from across five continents.
When complete, the Slocum collection database will allow researchers and puzzle enthusiasts to search and browse the largest assemblage of its kind in the world, with over 30,000 puzzles. The puzzle classification system used in this database was developed by Jerry Slocum on the basis of a scheme set out by Professor Angelo Louis Hoffmann in the now-classic 1893 book, Puzzles Old and New, and has been adopted by puzzle collectors and enthusiasts in several countries.
Puzzles types include:

I have mixed feelings about the repackaged 2019 Tom and Jerry Spotlight Collection Volumes 1-3 set. On the one hand, not having purchased the previous Spotlight Collection releases, it was really great to find all 112 episodes collected here in one place for quite a reasonable price. Not only that, but a handful of edited episodes that were erroneously included on the original sets have been replaced with their correct, and original versions for this 2019 release.
The original Spotlight collections were two discs each and contained around 40-odd episodes a set. They also came packaged with a number of short documentaries and a handful of audio commentaries as bonus features. This version of the Spotlight collections is a four-disc set as opposed to the original six and probably accounts for the change in menus and features which is a huge downgrade from the original releases.
The menus are, really, godawful. They look like they were created with the menu generating software that comes included with your DVD writing software. None of the glitz or professionalism that you would expect from a studio release, just a barebones list of episodes next to a crappy thumbnail of the box cover as you scroll through and select the shorts you want to view. To get to the bonus features you just keep scrolling through the episodes until you reach the end of the list where they include the featurettes.
He's been well known as a Superman fan for a long time. As for the best collection? Who knows? I'm not sure I've ever seen details about it before. My gut feeling is he doesn't have the best Action 1 so ....
He may be the most well-known Superman fan out there, but I've never heard of any major Supes books being bought by him (correct me if I'm wrong, guys). And I'd assume he'd be happy to waive privacy regarding this as such purchases would be a badge of pride.
But here is the thing to remember. Yes he is able to afford whatever he wants, but that does not mean he can get whatever he wants. He could offer the dentist 20 million for his copy and the dentist still has the right to turn him down flat.

I grew up in the orchard country of San Jose that is now Silicon Valley. During my early years my interest was sparked by my grandfather who gave me a petrified wood domed limb cast. I was intrigued by the thought of wood turning into stone.
My collecting began in thw 1980s once I had some disposable income. I had a deep fascination with lapidary tools and what you could do to rocks with them. As I continued on my interest branched into actual mineral specimens. I met lots of dealers, diggers, collectors, prospectors, traders and more than a couple of con men. Thanks to finding a few honest dealers I was able to compile a collection of over 800 specimens of which a fraction are presented here.
For years my collection was "housed" in cardboard flats and boxes. With the expansion of my plumbing business I was able to build a custom walk in display room to show my mineral and sphere collection. The beauty of the minerals is why I collect but I should also mention that I am color blind so don't be surprised if I ask you what color my minerals are.
The collection includes clippings, correspondence, documents, ephemera, photographs, publicity, published works, and scrapbooks relating to the club membership and activities- collected by former students of Vivian Aunspaugh, who began teaching art in Dallas in the early twentieth century. The art collection of Jerry Moss, the late music executive known for his representation of artists as different as Janet Jackson and Carole King, is heading to auction this fall. With a total sale estimate of more than $50 million, the lots include seminal works by the likes of Frida Kahlo, Tamara de Lempicka and Pablo Picasso.
Moss, who died in August at age 88, is best known for founding of A&M Records in 1962 alongside trumpeter Herb Alpert. The small label rose to industry dominance with its release of hits by the Carpenters, Supertramp, Cat Stevens and Peter Frampton, among others. In 2006, both founders were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The top lot in the sale is Nu Couche, a 1968 Picasso painting with a high estimate of $15 million. Other highlights include a Thomas Hart Benton work titled Evening Concert and a Jean-Michel Basquiat painting from 1984, with respective high estimates of $2.5 million and $6 million.
