Virtualenv in a different structure

I would like to know how it is possible to customize the interpreter
to use virtualenv in a different structure than suggested in the
README.

Sure - what's the structure you'd like to use?

I find that using .dir-locals to point to the python binary in a virtualenv works for all of my use cases, but maybe you have a different one...
