According to this post, skype versions older than 4.3 are unable to connect as of today (2014-08-01). Though it could have just been a temporary outage of the skype servers, I was able to connect after updating skype.

skype login

actually(and I discovered this quite randomly) the icon atop the desktop, displays the skype icon....which turns out to be the problem. I kept getting the same error message as you guys were getting, even after installing the latest version of Skype(4.3) But I had forgotten to quit Skype using that icon up there! After doing that, Skype performed flawlessly once more! I hope this helps someone.

During installation, it prompted me to merge my old Skype username with my Windows 8 account, which happens to end in @hotmail.com. This is a photo of the screen I took yesterday (I apologise for the quality. I didn't think an actual screen capture was necessary at the time):

Now, when I open Metro Skype, I am not prompted for a login at all. It goes through the animation, logs me in, and then a few seconds later, kicks me out with the following error:

My question is, how do I get into the Metro Skype settings to tell it not to use my Windows 8 credentials, if at all possible? I've swiped and clicked and swooshed and sworn and nothing seems to change the display. I've been into my personal settings to tell Skype not to run in the background, but that seems to be it. I can't see a reference to Skype in my User settings under Windows 8 either.

Today as I installed Skype 6.1, I tried one more time to sign in with my Microsoft credentials. As I was doing that, I remembered that my Messenger account only allows me to sign in from one place at a time.

Can you even log in?More precisely: can you log in and not immidiately be logged out (what is the average duration between log in and (automatic) log out)? Please, post a screenshot of the entire window.
And you can try clearing the cache, who knows, it might help:

Thanks everyone for the answers, i checked out this page but i cant find how to make skype remember my password, i'm missing something?
EDIT: gnome-keyring asked me if i wanted to remember password when i opened skype
SOLVED THANK YOU GUYS!!

I have set the Provisioning server and settings according the MS Support's direction, and upgraded it first to 5.4.0A.10182 then to 5.5.0.20556. In both cases, skype for business sign in fails after a VERY long time trying. I worked at length with MS support until they basically said to work with Polycom support, and also to obtain the SIP logs, which I still don't know how to do.(help there would be appreciated). I called Polycom support and while friendly, they were only allowed to do hardware support for me and couldn't go past a couple suggestions which didn't end up helping. Then I was steered here to you guys. Hoping we can sort this out.

Interesting issues, might be problems:

1. under Simple Setup, SIP server and Outbound Proxy still show my previous provider server addresses, but it is my understanding I dont' need to change that, and once this phone connects with the skype for business servers those will change automatically.

2. With out previous provider we have a DHCP server setting under SCOPE options that sets option 66 to point at the previous providers server. MS support didn't seem concerned about this, but just in case I set up a reservation in DHCP for my phone and changed that setting to blank for my phone... not sure if that helps or hinders or doesn't do anything. Under Settings - Provisioning Server - DHCP Server - Boot server is set to Custom+Opt66, Boot Server Option set to 160, Boot Server Type set to String

Resolution:UC Software 5.5.0 has not been qualified by Microsoft to use in Lync or Skype for Business deployments. Polycom will not support UC Software 5.5.0 use in Lync or Skype for Business deployments.

I've tried unsuccessfully to login with two separate skype accounts, but after a long time on the "signing up..." screen, the tv goes right back to the Home menu. There is in fact a message appearing but for probably around 0.1 seconds, which I'm unable to read. The only word I could recognize was "Internet".

However, the error is not because of a possible lack of connectivity, since all other applications work - from widgets to file sharing in the home network. Therefore, I can't conclude it's because of the connectivity or incompatibility with the router (from Cisco if it helps).

The situation is that if my customer channels are all in skype, is there anyway that I can trigger an Jira ticket while certain key words being found in a conversation between my customer service host and a client?

Nor do Zapier or IFTTT, the two services I would suggest using as no-code solutions to act as glue between two web services. It does look as though Integromat supports Skype however, and although they don't support Jira Cloud outright, you could use Integromat to send an email to Jira that would create an issue. Or for a more fragile solution (because of introducing a second "middle service"), it could fire a webhook to Zapier that then creates a Jira issue.

This project is an asynchronous multithreaded skype autoresponder for windows desktop which utilizes (emulates) the purpose of this program is for it to hold "conversations" with real people in real time who send contact requests or instant messages to the "bot" skype accounts it controls. this is only an autoresponder which responds to incoming contact requests and instant messages and does not add contacts from a database and initiate conversations with them, though i may request this feature to be added in at a later date. please make yourself familiar with web.skype.com or a github api which utilizes it. study the packets/headers, etc. as for this job you will essentially be creating a new lightweight skype client which controls many different skype accounts simultaneously through it.

When presented with the Office 365 login dialog window, enter your HawkID and Password in the areas provided and then click on the blue Log In button. The HawkID field may pre-populate with your email address; if this occurs replace it with your Haw...@uiowa.edu as in the example below.

The new VoIP phone system has a MeetMe Conference feature at x2070. This conference feature can be accessed from any telephone - and attendees can call in directly using the provided PIN for privacy of conferences. MeetMe facility supports an arbitrarily large number of conference calls.

Your individual VoIP phone number (DID) can also be used to receive faxes as a PDF attachment to a personal email message directed to your email account. Our VoIP system automatically detects incoming FAXes on your number and processes them without any intervention (your phone will not ring and you will not hear any beeping).

In the rare instance that an incoming FAX to your personal number is not detected automatically by the system, and you receive an incoming fax on your phone handset, simply Transfer the call to 329 (F-A-X) and it will be emailed to you.

You can also use the VoIP system to send outgoing FAXes without leaving your desk.

You can use the system when you have documents in the following formats: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PDF, TIFF, PNG, GIF, JPG. (We are working on compatibility for PostScript files)

If you have paper documents, you can scan them into PDF format and email them to yourself first using the Department copiers. Your document(s) should be formatted for US Letter (8.5 inches wide by 11 inches tall). To send a FAX using email, attach the file(s) to an email, provide a useful Subject header and address the email to:

A generic UCSB Physics cover page will be generated using your Name and FAX number, provided that your email address is listed in the UCSB Directory (if you are not listed in the UCSB Directory, be sure to get a NetID here.) You can add/edit your personal FAX number for your Directory entry here.

The Subject of your email and any text you type in the body of the email message will appear on the cover page as well.

Your sending email client must be google web access and the sender email address must be user...@physics.ucsb.edu. This security measure is in place so that only Physics users can send faxes out from our system.

The email will be queued in the outgoing FAX queue on the VoIP server. You will receive an email confirmation when the FAX is sent successfully, or an email failure notice if there are problems transmitting your FAX.

With Microsoft's acquisition of Skype, development and support of the "Skype for Asterisk"software has been discontinued. Support for Skype interfacing to the VoIP system willlikely disappear as Skype upgrades to newer versions. This information below is likely toonly be valid for a short time.

A new feature is now available on our VoIP system which will allow us to assign a unique SkypeName to any incoming Physics VoIP extension or menu. This will allow any Skype user to call your VoIP extension from the Skype network for free. These calls are routed to your VoIP extension and handset like a regular phone call - the Caller ID will show Skype: skypename with the caller's SkypeName in your display.

Note that these are special SkypeNames that PCS has created for departmental use through the Skype Business Control Panel, and are specially integrated with our VoIP system. If you have a Personal SkypeName that you would like to "merge" with your departmental SkypeName, you can set up forwarding of unanswered calls at your personal SkypeName to go to your UCSB Physics SkypeName.
