We live in an age of many wonders. Wonder one is how we (collective humanity) allowed ourselves to get to this juncture of man versus nature, the acceleration of this awesome and terrible climate machine with enough destructive potential to wipe us all out. Meaning all higher animals, if not the entirety of life itself. Wonder two is that we understand this, the advancement of science sufficient for our view. Along with the Internet, so available to all. Meaning no excuse for non-action. Wonder three is that Massachusetts, its Commonwealth, cities & towns, people & businesses, largely get it. Have enacted state & local acts as ways to address the issue (thank you Cambridge). Wonder four is that it is sssoooooooo sssllooooowwwwww. The glacial speeds of political action as opposed to the rapid meltdown of the Arctic. Wonder five is why so many of us tolerate that, amidst our growing intolerance. Wonder six - the Pope's upcoming encyclical, the moral outrage, the ethical challenge, that may, just may, we hope & pray may be a tipping point for humanity taking a radical new course. If the tipping point for the climate has not already come & passed. Blessed be the poor, for theirs is the Eaarth, which we wish them to inherit.
