Returning to Metropolis, Superman and Brainiac engage in a lengthy battle, during which Luthor is injured in the crossfire. Mercy Graves discovers Jimmy looking for evidence against Luthor and brutally attacks him. Eventually he takes over one of Lex's robot exoskeletons and knocks her unconscious. Unfortunately, his camera is destroyed by his attack, preventing him from obtaining evidence of Lex's schemes. Superman seemingly defeats Brainiac and then returns to the hospital to cure Lois. But before Lois can take the cure, Braniac attacks the hospital and smashes the cure, before Superman destroys him by breaking his brain chip.
Over the next few days, Clark constantly misses opportunities to talk to Lois and Jimmy constantly avoids Sara. One night, Sara falls ill due to food poisoning, so Perry sends Lois and Clark to Le Chateau Laboe for the food column. Meanwhile, up in space, Brainiac completes his integration with the Lex9000, fashioning himself a new robotic body and heading back to Earth.At Lexcorp, Luthor tells Mercy of his plan to take down Brainiac after he destroys Superman. At Le Chateau Laboe, Clark nervously tries to talk to Lois, but then Brainiac attacks the restaurant. Changing into his costume, Superman finds Brainiac a challenge, with his Kryptonite rays and his ability to locate him by his DNA. During the intense battle, Lois is hit by the Kryptonite rays. Quickly (seemingly) destroying Brainiac, Superman goes to her, and finds her deathly pale and very weak. Using his X-ray vision, he finds that shards of metal are fusing with her blood cells.At the hospital, it is revealed that, if this fusion process continues to happen, Lois may not have much time left. As Clark steals Lois' blood sample for tests, a dejected Jimmy convinces him that it is best to shed his "Clark Kent" identity as he goes off to the Fortress of Solitude. He consults the Krypton database for any information on her condition. The database informs him that the only possible cure for her condition is located in the Phantom Zone. It also warns Superman that the more time he spends in the Zone, the weaker he becomes, and that he too will need to consume the cure to protect himself from Brainiac's advanced Kryptonite.Just then, Brainiac invades the Fortress, and tries to absorb the data from the database, using Superman's DNA to gain access. Superman stops him by initiating the self-destruct sequence, which destroys the Fortress, and seemingly kills Superman. However, Superman was able to make his way to the Phantom Zone through a portal.
Superman's and Clark Kent's absences do not go unnoticed, with Luthor celebrating, and Perry and Jimmy believing that Clark left to spare himself the pain of seeing Lois die. In the Zone, Superman locates the cure and flies back to Earth with it. Meanwhile, Perry sends a depressed Jimmy to Luthor's party as a reporter to keep his mind off things.At the hospital, Superman gives Lois the cure. Awakening, Lois mistakes Superman's shadowed face for Clark's, and Superman uses this opportunity to finally come clean to her. Meanwhile, Luthor's party is in full swing, until Brainiac attacks the city. Luthor and Mercy head off to find his robotic suit, unaware that Jimmy has followed to gather evidence.Outside the hospital, Lois fawns over Clark, which he soon begins to find suspicious especially when she dismisses the threat of Brainiac. He realizes that Lois is actually a phantom, and that he is still in the Phantom Zone. Fighting his way through an army of phantoms, he makes his way back to Earth.In Metropolis, Luthor tries, and quickly fails, to take on Brainiac in his robot suit. Brainiac claimed he would never hand Earth over to Luthor, to which Luthor tries to set off a self-destruct sequence implanted in Brainiac. However, Brainiac had already located and deactivated the sequence, and easily defeats Luthor before moving on. Superman then finally makes it back to Earth, and reneges on saving Lois to take down Brainiac first.
Complaint: I count at least 4 times superman punches brainiac unconscious/dead flies away in a split second being all like "I'm sure brainiac won't get back up and punch me in the face" next split second brainiac is back on his feet punching him in the face. Seriously superman. Check for a computer-pulse or something before you go. IT SAVES LIVES.

This divisive little piece of now-obscure Superman media was released around the peak of marketing for Superman Returns. It's been widely criticised by fans of Superman: The Animated Series for, amongst other things, inconsistent continuity and characterisations (particularly with Lex Luthor) as well as bait-and-switch storytelling revolving around Clark wanting to share his secret with Lois Lane.
Many fans were disappointed that this film felt more like an Elseworlds tale and not an authentic 'bridge' between Superman: TAS and Justice League.
I've gone back and forth on whether or not I should do this for a while, but recently I watched a pretty good 50 or so minute version of it from an editor called Fanedit895, who hosts it on the Internet Archive. This version realized the potential of the story by rearranging scenes and deleting all sequences with Lex Luthor to avoid even touching on his characterizations, as well as removing the bait-and-switch so Lois knows.
So impressed was I that I decided the time had come to tackle this head on, but I wanted to set it apart from what this editor had managed, and have decided to try to cut it down to a TV episode length. Right now I'm testing out a 35-minute trim, but I'd like to cut at least ten more minutes.
Plans for this include
Changes
-Very little of Lex, he shows up in a photograph and towards the end, but that's it.
-Rearranged several key scenes to tighten the narratives, and, towards the end, serve as the bridge to the last scene
-Have Lois learn Clark is Superman
-Brainiac is not 'definitively' defeated, as the focus of the episode is largely on Lois and Clark and the lengths Clark will go to save Lois.

I've got an update already...I manged to cut it down to 25 minutes. The thrust of the story is mostly Clark's relationship with Lois and telling her who he is. Everything else doesn't really need elaborating because it takes up too many scenes.
I only have the copy of the movie and not so much the box sets of the series, so I can't, at least at the moment, use the original title sequence or end credits, but this opportunity enabled me to create CUSTOM opening titles, which allowed me to use footage from the movie I'm not going to use in the edit, which I found a more creative use of my time. Otherwise lovely work!Click to expand...That's for spotting that. Yeah, it just sort of attempts to lap over the 'Superman' portion of the title, which is annoying. I don't think it'll mess much with the timing of anything once I remove that frame.
While I'm fixing that, here is my episode title as it presently looks

I'll provide a video example of this restructuring when I can, the one I tried to post was a bit glitchy (audio pop at the beginning), so here's a clip of how I cut Clark telling Lois she has something on her face, and instead Brainiac now attacks just as Lois is about to clue herself in to realising Clark is Superman

Well hot damn this is a great edit! The way the narrative was rearranged was fantastic. I did not expect Luthor to be in here at all, let alone with the ending, but it works for the shorter episode you made. Great job!
I guess if I had a suggestion, perhaps to make it shorter might it be possible to cut Brainiac from the Fortress? In the context of this "episode" it does seem weird the story ends with Brainiac not being defeated, unless you have plans for Risk and Revelation Part 2.

-Check audio levels so the title music isn't quite as bombastic and louder than the actual episode
-Rearrange a couple of sequences
-Brainiac fight scene from the climax may be added instead

I haven't watched the 2 part series finale in a while, but this could potentially sit nicely right before those episodes since Clark reveals his identity to Lois.

I managed to find time to work on the upgrade today, I basically had to create yet another (and a much quicker) custom ending because there's virtually nothing else in the movie (besides the one I originally cobbled together from earlier portions) that would have leant well to one...I had considered a sequel hook, but the footage I wanted went on too long and highlighted some of the real problems with characterization that I wanted to minimise or outright ignore, plus it would have messed a little with continuity.
Superman now has his win like you wanted. I had to shorten their final fight considerably
