Hello Pomerium community,

We’re happy to announce the release of Pomerium v0.29.0! This version brings a host of improvements, new features, and a few breaking changes to be aware of.

Highlights:

  • Routes Portal user interface: Pomerium’s proxy now includes a built-in routes portal page that displays all the services/apps a user has access to as individual cards (with names, icons, and direct links). This makes it easier for users to discover and navigate to their available resources through Pomerium.
  • UDP support (and HTTP/3): You can now proxy UDP traffic through Pomerium using HTTP CONNECT-UDP tunneling. This extends secure, authenticated access to UDP-based protocols under the same zero trust model (think databases, DNS, etc.). As a bonus, HTTP/3 is now supported for proxying web traffic using QUIC.
  • OpenTelemetry tracing: Tracing has been overhauled to use OpenTelemetry. You’ll get seamless distributed traces across services, even at low sample rates, for better observability. Note: Previously supported tracing methods (Jaeger, Zipkin, etc.) have been removed in favor of the new OTEL-based system, so you’ll need to update your tracing configuration accordingly.
  • Terraform integration: We’ve introduced an official Terraform provider to manage Pomerium configurations (routes, policies, settings) as code. This is especially helpful for teams looking to automate and version-control their access policies.

Other enhancements: Pomerium v0.29 adds support for reloading configuration on the fly via SIGHUP, new not and exclude operators in the policy language for more flexible rules, performance improvements in directory group lookups and session handling, additional JSON output options (for error responses and a routes API endpoint), and numerous bug fixes and polish.

Happy upgrading,
The Pomerium Team
