Over the last six years, many world leaders have looked squarely at the suffering of the people of Darfur and turned away. Meanwhile, activists like you have cultivated a massive movement for the sake of peace and justice in Darfur.
People of faith have been integral to this movement—from nationally recognized religious leaders to congregants in churches, synagogues and mosques in communities across America.
Save Darfur, along with the Sudan Interfaith Working Group, has initiated Moved by Faith: A Call for Peace in Sudan.
The Moved by Faith initiative will unite faith leaders across the nation to demand that President Obama work towards a safer, more stable Sudan. We ask you—no matter your faith or background—to ask local faith leaders to add their names to the sign-on letter and deliver this powerful statement to the president: turning a blind eye to crimes against humanity and war crimes is intolerable for the people of this nation.
Imams, rabbis, pastors and priests, as well as clergy members of all faiths, are encouraged to add their names to the letter and lead their congregations in prayer for Sudan on the weekend of August 28-30.
For the non-ordained—even for the non-religious—we ask you to speak with faith leaders in your community and encourage them to take part in the Moved by Faith campaign.
Since 2004, the faith community has united for the people of Darfur. While there is a terrific amount of work left to do, our advocacy has been a powerful force for justice. Darfur, was, and still is, a moral imperative that calls to our conscience The faith community's prayers and actions have been an integral and indispensable part of the movement's successes.
Thank you for all you have done and continue to do, and for your partnership in Moved by Faith.
My best,
Jerry Fowler
President, Save Darfur Coalition
P.S. In conjunction with our Moved by Faith initiative, our September "Don't Forget Darfur" campaign is well underway. Please be sure to sign our petition to President Obama here and then ask your friends and family to join you in standing for peace in Sudan.
