to Polyphasic Sleep
Hello everyone, my name is James Steinmeyer. I have a few
questions about the Dymaxion sleeping schedule. First, is there anyone
out there who has been doing it successfully? Second, is it even
possible to adapt to the Dymaxion? Lastly, will over sleeping for 8
hours set me back?
I have been looking through Google for some time now trying to
find someone who is living a life with Dymaxion. I read a thing in the
New York Times about a man who did it for 2 years, but other than him,
I can’t find anyone. I see lots of people doing the Uberman which is
the same amount sleep, just closer together. If anyone knows of a
successful Dymaxion sleeper, let me know please.
Is it possible to adapt to the Dymaxion? I’ve watch a lot of videos
of people recording their progress on this schedule, but they all seem
to stop around the one week mark. Is this because it is simply
impossible? If you don’t know what the Dymaxion sleeping schedule is,
its four half an hour naps each six hours apart from one another. I am
7 days into the Dymaxion sleeping schedule and am having lots of
trouble. I get super tired in the AM and have a hell of a time keeping
myself up. Is it possible? Or am I just wasting my time. Proof would
help me continue.
I have overslept only twice out of the 7 days, but it was by 8 hours
each. Will this set me back? I feel like by having done this I have
lost all the progress I have worked so hard for. I am getting very
discouraged with this whole thing. I need proof and support in knowing
that it’s possible, or information that suggests it’s impossible so I
can put this to rest. Any info on either side would help me, because
right now I am at a cross road.
Any sort of information would be appreciated. Thanks
Also, if anyone wants to see my progress, I am recording it on
YouTube, here’s a link if anyone is interested.

Thanks again.

Unfortunately, as far as I know, we've not had a successful adaptation to Dymaxion here. It may be possible, but it will certainly be hard to adapt to. We would all love to see you succeed, though!

An 8 hour oversleep is pretty bad, it will most likely set you back at least a day. Consider setting up some back-up alarms to go off during times you definitely shouldn't be sleeping.

You could consider adding a 5th nap during your adaptation; I added a 4th nap when I adapted to Everyman 3. It made the total adaptation take longer, but I was much more functional; I imagine it would do the same for you. I probably wouldn't have succeeded without doing that. Your mileage may vary; it's not been attempted as far as I know. In fact I was pondering if a five-nap system would work earlier today: http://forums.trypolyphasic.com/topic/72/has-anyone-ever-tried/

It looks like your message didn't get posted to the list very promptly, unfortunately. Let us know where you are at now.

I always say that each time I over sleep for 2hrs + it really means that I have to start again.  However I reached the 1 week mark almost fully adapted but then I went back to my folks and caught a bad cold or something there so I decided to take a break from polyphasic sleep, and wont be getting back to polyphasic sleep until the new years.  To get past oversleeping maybe try using your computer as an alarm so that when you wake up there will be something already on to do ( i use this =] ).
