These are ideas for waking up if you can control the environment around you. I imagine at some point one should train the skill of waking up in arbitrary locations.
- Set an alarm to play music. Have the music increase in volume over time.
- Get an electric timer connected to a 500W flood light, which will turn on and off automatically at the right time. A strobe light may also work.
- Put the alarm across the room.
- Have a bucket of ice water next to the alarm. Require yourself to dunk your head in ice water before you can turn off the alarm. Imagine yourself gaining ten years of life / becoming superhuman / saving the world as you do this, so that you don't accidentally gain an aversion.
- Drink sufficient water before going to sleep.
What techniques are you all using?

I wake up very consistently to Matt's nap tracks, but I sometimes have the issue of very non-agentically sitting on my bed or the floor, and the dozing off. Hell, I've dozed off sitting at my laptop too. I'm wondering how to better facilitate this. Having an omnipresent buddy would help, but I don't, especially during the wee hours when I'd most need the support. I guess I could just have my phone buzz at regular intervals.
If you have an iPhone, consider Wake n' Shake, which requires you to vigorously shake your phone to turn off the alarm. On Android, this looks similar.Multiple alarms are strongly recommended.
