Accessing core-style type selectors, ex: ":host(.slide-up) ::content > * /deep/ [slide-up]"

I am trying to querySelector selectors specified in core-style. For example in https://github.com/Polymer/core-animated-pages/blob/master/transitions/slide-up.html in core-style there is:

:host(.slide-up) ::content > * /deep/ [slide-up]{...}

Is there a way to get the matching elements corresponding to this selector? How and where in code is <core-style> resolving this selectors?
