Use transistion animation outside of core-animated-pages

Hi all, i'm tring Polymer and i have some questions concerning animations.

i would use scale-up animation on a paper-fab when a user click or select some things...

I just know how to do between two sections of core-animated-pages with transition but not without...

In the "topeka" quiz, when a user click on an answer or choose to pick some checkbox, the paper-fab button scale-up automatically.

How did they do that !

I can't recall how it was done in topeka but you could probably do this pretty easily by adding a class to the paper-fab that kicks off a CSS transition
