Remote vs inlined stylesheets

I'm noticing that a lot of (all?) the core-* components are moving their stylesheets out into external files. Curious at the rationale for that change (style? performance in dev? easier for vulcanize?)

I kinda liked the inlined stylesheets (when they were short) :P
