I have a project using 0.5.5 of Polymer, Core and Paper elements, along with a small herd of my own custom elements. Loving it.

My (perhaps foggy) understanding is that since 'Polymer' is a common global in 0.5 and 0.8 that I won't be able to migrate piecemeal, with some elements using 0.8 and some 0.5. I will have to wait until the Core and Paper elements I use are also migrated to 0.8, then I will have to convert all of my custom elements in one go.

So I should just ignore the 0.8 hoopla until Core and Paper elements are also at 0.8, and then migrate in one pass.

Do I have this right? I'm trying the weigh developing more in the 0.5 style, knowing it's obsolete, vs. getting on board with 0.8.

You are right to hold off migration. I'd wait until the elements you depend on have migrated to 0.8.

I'd also read up on 0.8 (especially data bindings, the most radical change), and write my new code with migration in mind.
