I have an enlarged liver with innumerable cysts, and over the past few days I've been noticing that I have developed some back pain or pressure on the left side while I sit down.  Does anyone else experience pain or discomfort of this sort?  I wonder if it's because my left kidney is being compressed against my back due to the enlarged liver.

I haven't noticed this otherwise before.  I wonder if this is a sign that it's time to consider some treatment like octreotide.  I intend to see if this mild back pain continues over the next few days before reaching out to my doctor.

In the meantime, I have setup an appointment with a naturopathic chiropractor who I've been told has a good sense of knowing what sorts of natural remedies can help people with various health issues.  I'm curious if he might have something useful for me.  I presume he will prescribe some sort of liver or gut cleansing natural treatment.

I have the exact same thing. My left side has been bothering me since November.
My left kidney has a pretty big stone near the bottom of the kidney. It seems that when I sit too long or eat too much, that puts pressure on the kidney; I'm guessing it's the stone that hurts.

That's interesting, I wonder if mine might be related to a kidney stone as well.
Do you have an enlarged polycystic liver as well?
And have you found any pain relief methods that help?

My liver is pretty big. My belly looks like an 8-month pregnant woman's.
The only thing that seems to help my stomach ache is drinking lots of water and avoiding triggers like oereating.

Mine is the exact same, it's pretty embarrassing..  I'm pretty slim everywhere except for the belly.
I've been doing some stretches and rubbing the back area but it doesn't help the pain too much.  I may need to do more though.  It comes and goes.  It almost seems like I can feel the cysts rubbing against the back ribs sometimes, but I'm not sure.  The pressure / pain there is kind of new, so I'm not that familiar with the sensation.  I'll see how it feels in a few days or so from now..

Hi

Exercise doesnt help with whats known as the renal podge no matter what you do. I have a quite a tum and look like a Belsen victim elsewhere and been subject of cruel comments including a doctor gp. Gps just dont get the training they need to as it is not just polycystic diseases that lead to the renal podge. Unless they choose the renal specialisation track they do not know enough about renal matters considering the unfortunately high numbers of patients they come across. Many renal diseases do and it also occurs in starvation cases such as those seen in Ethiopia in the 80s.

I have Polycystic liver disease plus PKD. I am 73 with PKD 1 allele   When I was 50 years old I went to the Mayo Clinic Rochester. And had a liver resection with Dr Nagorney

They removed 2/3  of my liver. It was a big surgery  I have been fine ever since except for a few minor glitches-chronic post menopausal UTI, vasovagal attacks. And hypertension due to sodium intake and caffeine. It is especially sensitive as I age.

I awaken each morning with pain on both sides of my back. Once I have a hot shower the pain leaves.

My story is here

My liver remnant remains on my Right side. My stomach is in the middle and squished by my remaining liver.

I eat a vegetarian diet

Dr Torres and Nagorney first perfected the liver resection as a treatment for PLD. Dr Nagorney only operates on the liver.

Hi

Back pain with pkd and pld is normal however certainly if you have pkd there are genetic links with two back conditions. The first is called Scoliosis which is where the spine has a kink front to back or from side to side. The second is  Spina Bifida Occulta where the neural nerve is not covered in from tour hips down. People with this tend to have low back pain, be clumsy, have poor coordination and poor spatial awareness.  You could have one or both of these conditions.

I have huge kidneys and liver which press on my back and have both of the back conditions plus a prolapsed disc and renal osteodystrophy, a disease where every bone rots. The pain is so excrutiating the only thing i can do is walk up and down any of the day or night. There is nothing for the pain.
