Who needs the merger? Don't we have an identity?

I think the idea of the merger stinks. What happened to all the money
we raised for the Poly fund and all of the large and small donations
given over the past 10 years?

We bought the NYU Engineering School years ago. Why should we give it
back in exchange for nothing? Are we that desperate?

Polytech should stand on its own 2 feet and cut short this merger
game. Poly has plenty of real estate and endowment assets that NYU
will just gobble up. We can mortage the existing Poly assets if we
really need any money (which I doubt). We failed to capitalize on the
intellectual property generated by the University when the Reserch
Office closed with Jerry Fox's death. I think it's time for some new
leadership to take charge and put the University on a proper course
for financial success, not meger failure.

History repeats. NYU sold its engineering school in 1973 once. It can
do so again when doing so suits their needs. It won't be to the best
interest of Poly. All things in life go through changes, ups and
downs. Right now socio-economic landscape dictates the administrators
on both schools to consider this merger move. All the pressures in
this day and age like big endowment, grants, booming real estate
downtown Brooklyn, and annual rankings by the US News and World
Report, have a big play in this. It's unwise to think riding on NYU's
back would somehow bring back glory days to Poly. Never believe in
free lunch. Poly has over 150+ yrs of history. Let's not lose our
ground. Soon this will to pass.

The terms of the inital discusions as reflected in the Summer edition
of "The Cable" sound like terms for the takeover of a bankrupt
corporation. If find it very distressing. If the takeover occurs I
will not make contributions to NYU and I will nominate an alternative
charity in place of Poly(NYU) to be the beneficiary of the charitable
remainder trust defined in my Will.

If Poly's Board perceives that the takeover is essential for financial
reasons, I would hope that it would be more forthright with the Alumni
about the extent of the problems, provide financial statements and the
cost cutting steps that have already been taken to forestall this
predicament. I note in the Spring edition of "The Cable" Poly hired
an additional associate Dean to expand its horizons in scientific
achievement and the Summer Edition proclains it hired a vice president
of development to expand Poly's objectives. These actions do not
strike me as the actions of an organization hard pressed for money
