Spokane Community Gardens (
spokanegardens.com)serves as an umbrella to better network community gardens and the communities in which they are located. There are currently 50 gardens operating under this umbrella, with most of them located in high poverty neighborhoods and serving high needs populations. The VISTA position will build organizational capacity and sustainability, with a focus on infrastructure and operating procedures, building community and education. Specific tasks will include resource development, database development, program planning and budgeting, outreach and marketing, education, advocacy and a special emphasis on developing the Kids in the Garden program.
Member Duties : This position will work closely with the organization's volunteer board members to build organizational capacity, develop a sustainable infrastructure, build and manage databases (e.g. membership, volunteer management, funding opportunities, garden sites, donations, outreach opportunities, etc). A high priority for the first year is improving the Kids in the Garden program, improving community outreach and monthly Volunteer Work Parties.
