hey all,

hoping this finds you learning and growing in all the best ways. thanks to those of you who shared the names your favorite books and shows/documentaries /pixar flicks with me. my favorite show at the moment is "the chosen" and the books i am currently loving are "braiding sweetgrass" and "julian of norwich." oh and watch the youtube video of nightbirde singing "it's okay" on agt if you haven't yet. do feel free to write me with your favorite movie and or books anytime, and a quick update tooooo! i am especially up for reading good books).

how has your summer been? for me, this summer has been FULL, with 43 hours/wk of nanny work for two incredible families (after years of seldom working over 30 hours at any of my amazing jobs). I am tired and happy. We also had a family reunion in Bonners Ferry (a few weeks after everyone--my fully vaccinated parents and the other five currently living with them--recovered from covid. my sister Jenell had a very scary case of it, with eleven days of fever, and her family also all had it pretty bad). the reunion was really so sweet. my brother and his family came up from texas and it was the first time we have all been together in years. we took turns making good food and we had great prayertime and conversation, swimming in lakes, hiking and even a little midnight scrabble. some of the family got to see an early morning mountain lion outside their cabin!!!

Because Jenell and her family are in town from Tanzania, every moment Spirit guides me to I share with them. It has been such a joy to get to know my nephews and niece so well this past year. Their family is headed back shortly and will be starting a goat project and learning farm/classroom near their home in the jungle, so if you would like to know more about their work/support with finances and/or prayer, i can send you their info. i am hoping to go help out for a week or two in the fall of 2022, Allah willing, if anyone wants to tag along.

lastly, if you live in or near spokane, [and are not vegan or vegetarian or otherwise non-pork or non-meat eater] i am ending this email with a lovely note from one of my very favorite farmers. do scroll down and consider supporting her by feeding yourself and your family and friends some happy (and outstanding) meat! oh and even if you are vegetarian, check out Feast World Kitchen if you haven't already!

Love always wins.
Anna

Friday Greetings 👋

Let me just say that our customers are top notch!

Your response to our 10-day Pasture Perfect Pork Sale (still going strong through Sunday, July 18th!) has proven to me that the demand for truly pasture-raised meats that come from well-loved animals is not some kind of fad.

Sales events always introduce us to new customers.  Friends of the family, friends of friends, ALL are welcome.

We invite folks who want to know where their food comes from to pick up here at the ranch.  We also love to respond to fact-finding questions from folks who care how their food is raised.

What’s the #1 question?

“How is Ramstead Ranch’s pasture-raised pork different from store-bought pork?”

Great question!  I believe the care we give our pigs is without comparison.  We work hard to provide them with a low-stress life that’s in balance with nature.

I am happy to share what we do and how it makes our pigs’ lives (and our community) better.  Here we go!

Ramstead pigs, living the good life!

Our truly pasture-raised pigs live a very different life from conventionally raised pigs.  There are three major differences:

1.  The pigs at Ramstead live the good life-- Our pigs live outdoors in the sun and the shade.  They run, root, wallow, lounge and get to behave like real pigs.   It is our goal to give them a life worth living, every day.

Contrast that habitat to the closed buildings where conventional pigs are raised.  Crowded housing situations with concrete floors deprive most pigs in the US of the opportunity to express their natural curiosity.

2.  Our pigs benefit the environment--When properly rotated across pastures and woodlands, pigs introduce an amazing amount of natural fertilizer in balanced quantities.  Their manure is spread directly on the soil and stomped in, meaning that it quickly gets incorporated by the ecosystem.

By contrast, conventional pig farming concentrates waste and manure in giant lagoons that emit harmful gases into the air.  Lagoons are also at risk of leaching into the ground and surface water, where it can negatively impact the ecosystem.

3.  The meat is better for you—What we eat matters!  And it matters what animals we consume eat, too.  Our pigs eat a diverse diet of plants, grasses, roots, bugs, and whatever they find in our no-spray pastures.  They also receive a simple mix of grains that nourishes them and allows them to grow at a healthy pace.  Their feed contains all non-GMO ingredients and is corn-free and soy-free.

Alternatively, pigs raised in the conventional system are fed a cocktail of antibiotics and growth-promoting agents.  The goal is to produce lots of cheap meat, fast.  Most pigs never eat a bite of the grasses essential to developing the higher Omega-3s and healthy fats that make Ramstead meats more nourishing.  Nor does their meat develop the rich taste that comes from exercise and a diverse diet like our pigs do!

You and I both know that the hidden cost of cheap food is being paid by folks with failing health and out-of-balance consumption habits.

When you purchase from farms like ours where you can see how the animals are raised and know how the land is being treated, you change the landscape of the broken food system in this country one delicious bite at a time.  We are grateful for the opportunity to answer the call for better meat for you, your friends, and your families.

As a reminder, you can still make selections from our Pasture Perfect Pork Sale through this Sunday. If I can make a recommendation to you, the best value and variety options we have are the Pasture Perfect Pork Boxes

They've been super popular, but we still have plenty in stock.  You can get yours or review the entire sale offering here:

Take care, and as always, thanks for your support!

Delicious! I started with a Ramstead Ranch Favorites to get a sampling of different meats and followed up with a second order shortly thereafter. If you’re used to store bought meat, it definitely has a different flavor. My family loves it…it’s healthier and we take pride in supporting our local farm. Eileen and team have great customer service. I would highly recommend Ramstead Ranch.
