Earth Day at Polly Judd Park

Community Garden and Food Forest

Saturday, April 21st, 2018

11:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Hello core supporters of Polly Judd Park!

We have something fun coming up. Jon Lossing, and Robynn Sleep in particular, have been very active in attracting activities to Polly Judd Park for Earth Day. Some day soon, 4/21 event announcements will be posted - we wanted you, our innermost core group, to get this pre-announcement alert.

This is an event for everyone. Just show up, pretty much. Maybe bring gloves ( and a dig bar) to help plant trees. Maybe bring plastic bottles if the Sheridan Elementary science project goes in that direction. Ever wanted to bee a pollinator? Now is your chance! The first event of the day will be a Procession of the Species leaving the Park at 12:00 accompanied by a uniquely local marching band.

Stop by the Procession of the Species costume craft booth in the garden area at 11:00 to make a mask, wear a costume, come as you are. The event will be filmed for educational purposes.

After touring the neighborhood, the Procession returns with Great fanfare at 1:00, just in time for our main event: a Susie Forest Tree Planting. We will be planting and dedicating several plum trees - the Park’s first Susie food forest trees (but not the Park’s first Susie Forest trees).

After our plum trees dedication there will be many more activities available: Installing a pollinator garden for kids. A turn at identifying garden bugs. Composting. Plants, Info and Seeds. Science! Sign up for a yard study. Help Sheridan Elementary Science Students build something cool, like a greenhouse out of plastic bottles. The day will be an excellent opportunity to mill around aimlessly catching up with your neighbors!

Looking forward to gathering with you at the Park,

Phil
