This design will be in the style of the beds favored by the Hemlock and Fairview Community Garden (FB Photo album).
This is a simple and tried design that resists frame burst well. The 4x4s inside the corners extend a few inches above the bed to allow attaching season extenders and trellis supports.
BRING: If you can help, please bring gloves and shovels. We will be mixing soil and compost into the new bed.
I will bring a level, clamps, and other tools. By Saturday, the 2x6s and 4x4s will be cut to length, we just need to assemble the pieces.
BRING: A couple more portable drills would be handy (drivers: 7/16 hex, T-25 star. Drill bit: 1/4 inch)
Compost to fill the bed will be available on site. We will be screening loamy sand soil (1/2”) from the base of the soil pile 100’ west of the garden bed. Thank you to John and Louise, whose home building resulted in the soil availability.
Many hands makes light work of the arduous task screening and moving the soil down the hill. Melody and Russ did this earlier this week, definitely a task for a larger crew.
BRING: A couple more wheelbarrows would be handy for moving the screened soil.
BRING: A garden hose, maybe?
I am painting a 36x40 sign board to attached to posts. Saturday, we will need to excavate the post holes to install the signs.
BRING: A post hole digger and a couple more dig bars would help.
Warm regards,
Phil
