Is there a way to identify poll results participants retrieved through API, other than just firstname and lastname initials?

We have user who have very similar names like let's say Michael Luis and Michael Lee would both show up as Michael L. in their participant_identifier and screen_name fields.  Is there a way that you can send in more information, possibly the responder_email, about the user?

Sorry, we don’t give out responders' email, phone number, or other PII (aside from the screen names) to protect their privacy.

If your use case allows, you might ask that these users change their screen names to show their last names. That’s entirely opt-in for our participants so they can have full control over their privacy.

If you need access to the users full name you’d have to turn on participant registration, which adds a few extra steps to the flow for responders when they respond to a poll. You can contact our support team or sales for more information on how that feature works and the trade-offs.

Even when I have a poll that is restricted to registered participants, I get only the screen name and voter_id through the API.  It is essential for me to get a piece of information that is keyed to my class rosters so I can automatically record students' poll participation in my gradebook.  Manually download the response spreadsheet for every poll is not going to be practical.  And that also gives me only the screen name and full name, not a unique ID that I can reliably key to my class roster.  (The e-mail address should work as a unique ID because I import the participant list directly from Canvas, but it would be even better if the participant syncing also included the student ID or login for synchronization.)

If there is a way to download the list of registered participants, including both their e-mail and voter ID (if the voter ID indeed refers to a unique, registered participant), that would be fine too.

When you upload your participants, there is a field that where you can assign a custom unique key for them. I see that you’ve already created a grade book report (https://www.polleverywhere.com/reports/478819). If you go to that report and click the download link on the bottom right of the page, you will get a CSV that will contain email address as well as that custom ID. You could manipulate that report to contain the polls / runs you want and then run a script to download the CSV, parse the data, and then upload to Canvas.

However, it looks like your account has our Canvas integration setup, so I suggest using that. We have instructions for importing participants and creating grade book entries here: https://www.polleverywhere.com/guides/instructor/lms-integration#canvas-integration

Hope that helps,
