Call Me A Chicken Hawk?
April 1st, 2007

I graduated High School in 1976, got a job and got married in 1978.
My lovely wife and I are still together and have raised three
wonderful kids.

No, I did not serve in the military. Sue me.

Having been embroiled in many discussions regarding the Iraq War
with liberals, I have learned that many of them have served and most
of that group hated it, but they are quick to throw their service in
your face when backed into a corner. Then they demand to know how you
can support the troops and the war effort while you have never served.
The real fun begins when they then demand to know, "When are you
signing up?"

The irony lies in the fact that they suspect and accuse our troops
of a plethora of crimes and atrocities and when we (the right) defend
them, we are wrong. Another irony I have encountered is the
conservative who has served is denigrated along with those of who did
not. So if you served it's perfectly fine to trash the brave men and
women who do so currently, but if you did not serve, then sit down and
shut up...you have no right to an opinion in this matter.

OK, fine...let's apply that doctrine to other areas as well. There
are a multitude of professions that can benefit from the hands-off
approach, so let's go:

When the lights go out, sit there and shut up about it unless
you're willing to don some rain gear and head out into the hurricane
and fix the power lines yourself.

Unless you've ever been a policeman, I don't want to hear "boo"
from you about that alleged case of "excessive force". (When are you
signing up?)

"Holy moly, the whole building burned to the ground!" Yeah, and
your problem is...? I didn't see you running in to douse the flames
personally, shut up.

"Jesus, this band really sucks!" Hey, don't be shy. Jump on up
there and do better if you can. If you've never been a musician just
sit there and clap, or get the hell out.

"Waiter, this steak is just awful!" So why didn't you stay home and
cook for a change? Are you a chef? Shut up and eat.

"Arghhh!!! I can't believe he missed that field goal at the end of
the game!" Oh yeah? Did you ever play professional football? Shut up,
and pay your bookie.

The doctor missed the tumor on the x-rays and now it's too late.
Well by golly, why didn't you sign up for med school and become a
doctor? Too bad, but you had better things to do than become a doctor
and now you had to rely on someone else. Suck it up.

I don't know what to call any of the people in the previous
scenarios, but chickenhawk might work.

And if you disagree with this article, too bad. You should have
written your own. Shut up.

Woody, I volunteered to serve 4 years during peacetime and would never
criticize ANYONE for supporting the troops and Commander-in-Chief. I
have a liberal father-in-law that served in Vietnam, he is a 'war
hero' to the family and I get no respect for my service, even though
he only served 2 years and was forced to go. Your examples point out
criticism of professions, you support the troops, big difference,
Hannity and O'Reilly get this crap alot also, 75% of the military vote
GOP, I think that sums it up.
