ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — President Donald Trump on Wednesday proposed sending the National Guard to Atlanta in a speech at the White House.
The proposal came after Trump touted the National Guard’s presence in cities such as Washington, D.C., and Memphis.
“We could take care of Atlanta. I’ll tell you what, you oughta get them to call me. We could take care of Atlanta so fast,” Trump said.
Atlanta and Fulton County have been the objects of Trump’s ire for years.
On Jan. 28, federal agents showed up unannounced at the Fulton County Elections Hub and Operations Center in Union City. They took hundreds of boxes of ballots and other documents related to the 2020 election under a search warrant that claimed “defects” had been detected.

President Donald Trump has long claimed that election fraud caused him to lose the county to Joe Biden. After the raid, he suggested Republicans take over elections in at least 15 places, including Atlanta.
“Go to 2020. Look at the facts that are coming out, rigged, crooked elections. Take a look at Detroit, take a look at Pennsylvania, take a look at Philadelphia, take a look at Atlanta, horrible corruptions on elections, and the federal government should not allow that, the federal government should get involved,” he said.
Meanwhile, Fulton County officials say the move was political retribution, emphasizing that multiple recounts have validated the results. The county has filed a lawsuit seeking the return of the documents.
“Our constitution itself is at stake in this fight,” Fulton County Chairman Robb Pitts said. “It’s much bigger than Fulton County, Georgia.”
The raid has intensified political tensions around election oversight in Georgia, particularly in Fulton County, which includes Atlanta and has long been at the center of partisan disputes over voting access and election administration.
President Trump is visiting Georgia’s 14th congressional district on Thursday.
According to the White House, President Trump is expected to travel to Rome, Georgia, where he will give remarks on affordability and the economy followed by a local business visit.
“President Trump’s visit to Rome will underscore the work that this Administration has already done to raise real wages and accelerate economic growth – and what work the Administration will continue doing to keep delivering for Georgians," a White House official said.
The president has endorsed Clay Fuller, the district attorney for the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit, for the March 10 special election to replace Marjorie Taylor Greene in Congress.
