Excellent!

Though I have to admit that it has occasionally gotten a little "woke" even for my tastes. Starting with the 1990s series, but especially with the newer series.

Gods forbid that the "Star Trek" franchise ever becomes socially rightwing, like the "Stargate" franchise. But a little more "Star Wars"-like, or even more "ST-TOS"-attitude, with William Shatner's "Captain Kirk", Leonard Nimoy's "Mr Spock", DeForest Kelly's "Bones", James Doohan's "Scotty", and the rest, would not be unwelcome, IMHO...

May be an image of text that says 'Heidi Steinman Tuinstra 12h• Turns out I'm woke. ljust thought I paid attention in history class. IS YOUR CHILD A FAR-LEFT EXTREMIST? 父 Look for warning signs: -Expresses sympathy for poor and working people -Expresses concern over the treatment of marginalized groups -Expresses concerns with fascism and the current political climate -Accepting of all sexualities. religions, genders, races, etc. -Wishes for world where all -Takes an interest in history and philosophy are treated equally -Talks about solving various injustices in society'

Those are all well and fine when taken one by one. But liberalism can also get out of hand at times, and kind of sappy and irritating. It's hard to explain, but the Star Trek universe has been known to get like that in ways that don't seem to apply to the Star Wars universe.

This year, “Star Trek” has partnered with three worldwidenonprofits that embody the values of the franchise, including Code.org, giving every K-12 student the opportunity to learn computer science; DoSomething.orgfueling young people to change the world; and Outright International, advocating for LGBTIQ inclusion and equality globally. The “Take the Chair” campaign invites fans to see themselves in the iconic U.S.S. Enterprise captain’s chair and ask themselves, “What would I do if I were setting the course to the future?”

Star Trek day is Sept 8.
